Social Media Strategy Manager


In February of 2013 I stumbled across a job that I thought would have fit me perfectly. A social media strategy manager for E. & J. Gallo Winery in Modesto, CA. For those of you that don't know, these are the fine people behind the Night Train Express and Thunderbird wine. While they don't want to admit that they are the ones distributing it, they are. This could have been my chance to help promote Night Train and Thunderbird to the masses that I had been looking for since I took my first ride on the Night Train Express. In my opinion the marketing of these fine wines has been very poor since the mid 1990's. Any researching I have done, or marketing items I have been looking for, seem to have died out after 1996. What's the deal with that?

Sadly I missed out on an eBay auction for a large Night Train Express sign last month, but after much debate I finally purchased the Thunderbird T.C. sign last night off eBay that I have been looking at for the past year. Sadly I'm still not able to find Thunderbird T.C. anywhere since it seems to have been discontinued early in the 2000's, so if you happen to been out and about and find a bottle sitting on a self, make sure you pick one up for me!

SUMMARY
Functions as the social marketing Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the E.&J. Gallo Winery in all matters of social media marketing.  Responsible for understanding the latest social media technologies and best in class programs and creating benchmarks, analytics/metrics and policies.  Works closely and advises Gallo Brand Management teams on use of social media marketing technologies and strategy as a means to engage and build relationships with consumers. Manages external agencies and cross-functional Gallo personnel to ensure collaborative, successful, and efficient social marketing project execution.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Collaborates with key cross-functional groups to develop and execute programs that accomplish brand objectives on schedule and within budget.
• Leads organizational education pertaining to the latest social marketing developments, competitive landscape, and consumer behaviors and trends in order to proactively direct current and future opportunities.
• Functions as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Social Media and shares social marketing programs, opportunities, and strategies with Senior Management.
• Leads the development of innovative and scalable social marketing plans/programs to optimize performance against key performance indicators; thinks creatively and plans strategically.
• Communicates best in class learnings effectively with brand teams and organization.
• Works closely with social media agencies to communicate latest procedures, processes, and metrics.
• Exhibits a sense of urgency – monitors, prioritizes and responds in near real time.
• Manages and coordinates the architecting, development, launch and ongoing management of US and international social marketing initiatives.
• Directs external agencies and multiple projects; prioritizes, sets and achieves objectives/deadlines.
• Leads others to successfully meet objectives.
• Oversees the development of social marketing procedures and performance measures.
• Works closely with social media specialist to ensure best in class community management execution.
• Analyzes the performance of social marketing programs reviewing results by tactic to proactively recognize and optimize interactions with our consumers.
• Develops best practices based on results, industry trends, and competitive audits. 
• Gathers requirements from brands to help define next-generation social marketing opportunities.
• Defines and tracks performance of social marketing initiatives and campaigns. 
• Provides regular performance reports to internal and external stakeholders.
• Uses knowledge gained through analysis to direct forecasting, budgeting and social media marketing direction.
• Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
• Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.  If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED.
• Master’s degree plus 3 years of social media marketing, interactive marketing, digital marketing or online public relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility OR Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of social media marketing, interactive marketing, digital marketing or online public relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility OR 9 years of social media marketing, interactive marketing, digital marketing or online public relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility. 
• Project management experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree plus 5 years of social media marketing, interactive marketing, digital marketing or online public relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility OR Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Advertising or Communications plus 8 years of social media marketing, interactive marketing, digital marketing or online public relations experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
• Marketing agency experience.
• Strong history of active participation as a marketer in social networking channels such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc.
• Strong working knowledge of and experience with various social media marketing technologies, platforms and practices to deliver an exceptional online consumer experience.
• Experience leveraging data driven research/analysis to drive strategic direction, best practices and process improvements.
• Strong leader and collaborator to help build out scalable marketing programs which will positively impact consumer experiences and business results for Gallo brands.
• Strong analytical skills including familiarity with web analytics tools.
• Excellent project management skills and experience with multi-tasking in a fast-paced, high stress environment and ensuring follow-through on every matter.
• Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and listening skills.
• Experience with working independently and leading others.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Experience with generating ideas and working under minimal guidance.
• Experience with press releases, article submissions, site submission, meta tags, keyword research, Website analysis/analytics, e-mail campaigns/auto-responders, testing and tracking.
• Excellent oral communications and writing skills with extensive experience in all forms of written communication.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience with working as a team player.
• Advanced presentation skills.
• Excellent social marketing conversation skills.
• Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Experience effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Excellent technical skills, illustrating professional expertise with social media technologies and advanced knowledge of tools like forums, blogs, live chats, social networks, forums, podcasts, wikis, and media.
• Experience interacting within online brand communities and platforms.
• Skilled in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Knowledge of the concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Experience with defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
