Beer Of The Week - Oskar Blues Death By Coconut

It's a new year and it's time to class things up at bumwinebob.com a bit! As a special treat for all you readers we are jumping back on the craft beer train once again! I am going to be joined by Dan from the Beer Up Blog on this Sunday's edition of Bumming with Bobcat, so I wanted to get one of his picks for a beer of the week that our readers to enjoy. He gave me a few of his top choices at the moment, and after doing some searching I was finally able to get my hands on one of his top picks.

DEATH BY COCONUT!
Death By Coconut is an Irish Porter brewed and canned by the Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont, Colorado. Upon opening the can I could smell the chocolate and coconut combination right from the start. As I took the first sip I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the taste. I have had some "chocolate" beers in the past and was not impressed, but I was very happy with the combination in this one. You definitely can taste the taste the coconut in each sip along with a hint of chocolate that isn't too overwhelming.

Yes...that is a Miller Lite glass...sorry.
Oskar Blues Death By Coconut comes in at 6.5% ABV and tastes just like a mounds bar. If you are a fan of coconut then you will definitely be a fan of this beer. I do have to say that the only thing I am not a fan of is the price. As with many craft beers, they can be quite pricey. It was $14.99 for a four pack so it averages about $3.75 per beer. It's not THAT bad when you think about it, but when you are used to paying that same price for a 12 pack it can get quite depressing. Save these for a special occasion or enjoy as a nice dessert beer.

A four pack of fun!
Be sure to tune in LIVE this Sunday at 11am EST where I will be joined by Dan from the Beer Up Blog on this weeks episode of Bumming with Bobcat! We will be discussing the world of the craft beer culture, some top beer picks, AND MORE! Tell your friends to tune in and join the party! Cheers!

  2. Thanks for taking the hit and buying a real beer. Your description of the beer being 'Mounds-like' has struck a cord and I'm on a mission to find it!
