AEW Dynamite - Episode 12 “The One Where A Wrestling Show Breaks The Internet”.
Air Date: 12/18/19
From: American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas
Here’s the deal. I’ve wrote this review twice. Deleted it both times. Why? Because I’m not sure if it’s even worth writing a show review that is so over analyzed on social media. What should be a fun show ends up making me not giving two shits about writing about wrestling. The level of toxicity in wrestling social media is abhorrent.
It’s why I have been edging closer and closer to just covering independent wrestling. There, within that realm of the wrestling universe, is solidarity and joy, for the most part. You can click on the hashtags of Uncharted Territory or whatever indie ppv show running on any given night, and you are met with like minded individuals not there to judge work rate or measure the height of some dude.
So you wanna know what happened on Dynamite? On the TWELFTH OVERALL EPISODE of a new wrestling program, there was fun, there were mistakes, there were angle developments that made sense and some that didn’t and then there was the worst thrown punches in the history of professional wrestling apparently. Yeah, they were bad. Even Dustin Rhodes said they were an embarrassment. There’s no excuse for someone who can’t throw a worked punch to be on tv, let alone in the middle of a tv screen at a very crucial moment in a new show’s biggest moment to that point.
But guys. It’s a fucking tv program. Laugh at the mistake and move on.
Two really great tag matches book-ended the show, with Lucha Bro’s defeating Kenny Omega and Adam Page - seemed like we were gonna see a heel turn by Page, but that was ended abruptly by PAC. The other tag match so SCU defeat The YoungBucks. Kris Statlander continued her rise up the AEW ranks defeating Britt Baker. Chris Jericho defeated Jungle Boy in a very entertaining segment on the show, but who fucking cares.
Let’s just bitch about some bad punches. Fuck all the good stuff.
That’s your review.
