AEW Dynamite | Episode 17 | 1/29/20 | Wolstein Center | Cleveland, Ohio

This week’s AEW Dynamite episode started out differently than most do. Usually, they jump right into a match but that wasn’t the case this time.
Opening the show, Moxley comes out to cheers clearly, and cuts a great promo on Chris Jericho. He has an intensity about him which pulls you in as he’s speaking. He then calls Jericho out, and gets what he asks for. Jericho comes out to cheers and people singing along to his music only to turn around and get booed after insulting the crowd. (Where else does that happen? Wrestling fans are the best. Literally.) Anyway, back to business, Inner circle comes out and 5 more people join them. It’s Moxley vs 10 people at this point until officials break it up.

Jon Moxley is the #1 contender for Jericho’s Championship so this whole storyline has my interest.

First match is The Butcher and The Blade vs The Young Bucks. Prior to this match, we see MJF and Wardlow walk through some creepy rooms to hand over some cash to The Bunny. Clearly, as an incentive for them to take out The Young Bucks.

On a side note as a biased MJF fan: Assumingly, when the door slammed and MJF jumped he was NOT scared. Wardlow forgot to let the door shut gently is all, and he reacted.
MJF decides to join commentary with Wardlow next to him. Always a treat for the fans to hear him talk. The match was good. The Young Bucks work so well together obviously, and it helps the match flow no matter who they face. Points were made about how The Young Bucks were more agile and flippy and The Butcher and The Blade were more strength. I agree about the different wrestling styles in this match. Overall, The Young Bucks win.

After the match, B&B attack The Young Bucks and Omega and Page come out to help. I was a bit surprised Page helped honestly. Meanwhile, The Salt of the Earth did nothing to help because he shouldn’t have to anyway.

Next match is Nyla Rose vs Big Swole. I like both and I really thought Big Swole did a good job holding her own against Nyla. Nyla picked up the win. It was a decent match and hopefully we see more of them both on future Dynamite episodes.

3rd match is Kip Sabian w/Penelope Ford against Cody Rhodes w/Arn Anderson and his game plan sheet of paper. Although this match was predictable with a Joey Janela appearance and Cody Rhodes getting the win, I still enjoyed it. Kip and Penelope tried playing on Cody’s “nice guy” persona by faking injuries and I thought it worked well. (Cody is a gem, always concerned.) Even with the interferences and Arn Anderson getting sent backstage Cody still won. Fun match. Next up for Cody is some lashings.

Dr. Britt Baker DMD cuts a great promo on Jim Ross. Sounded like she improved tremendously from last week. I can feel the true heel version of her coming through. Can’t wait to see what she does going forward.

Backstage Hangman Adam Page throws another dig at The Young Bucks. This storyline is moving at a slow pace and it’s perfect. Can’t rush good things after all.

Onto the next match, SCU vs Hybrid 2. SCU comes out paying tribute to the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter by wearing his jersey. Much respect there.

This match was ok. I’m not too familiar with Hybrid 2 so I have to see more of them. I think Scorpio Sky was the highlight of this match. SCU picked up the win.
The Dark Order comes for Christopher Daniels again. They want him to join them and honestly so do I.

Main event time. 6-man tag match, Private Party and Darby Allin vs Santana & Ortiz and LeChampion, Chris Jericho. Solid match. I find it hard to dislike any match Darby Allin is in. He’s so good and definitely on my top 3 favorite AEW wrestlers. Private Party is growing on me also, but I really like Santana & Ortiz a lot as far as tag teams go. Jericho gets the pin and of course the Inner
Circle comes out and they all attack Darby Allin.

Finally, Moxley makes his way to the ring, bat in hand, to help Darby and takes out the Inner Circle. Again, I’ll say, I do want Jon Moxley to be the one to take the Championship from Chris Jericho.

Another great Dynamite episode. Storylines are flowing and I enjoy seeing the variety of wrestlers every week. As always, I’m looking forward to next week’s episode already!
