MLW FUSION #95 REVIEW By Dallas Barnes
This week’s show was very entertaining and flew by! I’ll be writing this article by what I wrote down in my notebook while watching the show, I hope y’all enjoy.
The show started off with a very nice recap of Davey Boy Smith Jr & Brian Pillman Jr attacking Contra and hyping up Davey Boy Smith and Simon Gotch in a No ropes Match! Holy hell this should be interesting! There was also a video recap of Injustice in the face of Konnan, setting up Myson Reed vs Drago for the Middleweight Championship! We also have MJF Vs Marshall Von Erich in the main event, with that here we go!
Simon Gotch vs Davey Boy Smith- NO Ropes match!
Simon Gotch is out to great heat while Davey Boy Smith is out to a great ovation! This match is kind of like A BloodSport match, I’m interested to see how MLW does it. The Match starts with Davey Boy and Gotch Fighting for position while Gotch is in a front head lock. Gotch pushes Davey Boy out the ring but Davey lands on his Feet. Back in the ring Davey and Gotch are back fighting for position in a front head lock. Davey hits a beautiful arm-drag like Suplex. Both Gotch and Smith trade huge elbows in the middle of the ring that Smith gets the advantage, Gotch ends up kicking the legs of Davey boy to get him onto his knees then hits a big Enziquri.
Gotch spends a few minutes working on the legs and ankle of Davey boy to set up a Ankle lock, this includes hard kicks to the hamstring and quads. Gotch finally gets him in a brutal locking leg trap but Davey Boy somehow deadlifts Gotch up and hits a belly-to-Back Suplex! This shit is getting good! Davey Boy hits a series of Belly-to-back Suplex which causes the referee to call off the match. Davey Boy wins!
Weak finish in my opinion but I haven’t been watching MLW consistently enough to know if that’s Davey’s finisher or not. Fun no ropes match between these two, I wouldn’t mind more No Rope matches in MLW.
Mance Warner is backstage after his match with Jimmy Havoc last week and cuts a great promo calling out Hammerstone for the National Openweight Championship. Mance is so damn good and believable on the microphone, I’m shocked a big company hasn’t tried picking him up yet, but I’m not complaining I’m enjoying Mance on the independent scene!
Next is a video package of Tom Lawlor does Texas, which is him exploring Dallas, Texas. He says he’ll get real cowboy boots to wear unlike The Von Erich’s. This was a fun little heel package.
Drago vs Myson Reed – Middleweight championship match
Injustice cut a pre-match promo with Oliver calling Dallas, Houston and going on to say everyone and everything in Texas looks the same. Kotto asks if they crowd has no love for them, then goes on to say it doesn’t matter because they have no love for the Dallas Cowboys anyway. Apparently Drago has already beat Jordan Oliver and Kotto Brazil in a tag team match which helps me understand why this match is going on (Nice commentary btw). Drago hits a series of kicks ending in a nice looking leg drop, Drago then goes for a splash off the top rope but the chest protector of Myson Reed helps absorb the blow. Reed ducks another clothesline and kips up and hits an Enziquri. Reed hits a beautiful code breaker on Drago while he’s in the corner. Reed his a nice Sling shot Suplex and Springboard Leg drop for a close two count! Reed gets thrown outside by Drago but Injustice catches him, Drago then dives on all three members of Injustice. Drago hits pop-up powerbomb rolled into another powerbomb for a 2 count! Drago tries to neutralize the odds by hitting a superkick on Kotto and a nasty swinging DDT onto Jordon Oliver. It doesn’t work as Kotto low blows Drago as he’s about to SuperPlex Reed. Reed he’s his 450 No cap Splash, the ref calls off the pin at 2 but Reed still picks up the win.
Really entertaining match between these two, I’d love to see these two go at it again. I’m really interested in where this storyline with Injustice goes.
Low ki is interviewed by Alicia Atout and is asked about being the toughest guy on the roster, as Low Ki is talking , King Mo interrupts to question him.
A great video package for Jacob Futu vs Brian Pillman jr saying the Hart Foundation is dead after attacking contra last week.
Next is a video package setting up the main event match of MJF Vs Marshall Von Erich , this should be fucking great.
MJF vs Marshall Von Erich- Main Event
Tom Lawlor is out for commentary for this match. MJF gets a kiss on the cheek from a fan during his entrance. MJF cuts a pre-match promo calling the Von Erich’s trash and saying tonight another Von Erich goes 6-feet under, OOF Great heel work from MJF.
Marshall Von Erich is out to a loud ovation from the Dallas crowd! Loud Von Erich chant before the match official begins. The match starts with an collar to elbow tie up which goes all around the ring, the ringside area and ends up back in the ring in a stand off. MJF proposes a handshake which Marshall falls for and gets kicked in the gut. Marshall gets the upperhand again but chops the ring post. MJF sticks the fingers between the exposed turnbuckle and starts working on the hand/fingers by stomping the hand and placing submissions on it to disable Marshall’s Claw submission finisher. Marshall finally gets free after several minutes with a overhead belly to belly Suplex. Marshall hits a series of clotheslines in the corner then hits a big cannonball to MJF while he’s seated in the corner. Lawlor has been fun on commentary. Marshall goes for The Claw but MJF pulls the ref in front of him to block it. This allows MJF to put Marshall in a Arm lock, bending the arm and fingers back as far as he can! Marshall gets to the ropes and hits a beautiful moonsault for a two count! Dynasty gets involved, which allows MJF to roll Marshall up with his feet on the ropes, the ref notices and gets distracted yelling at the ref which allows Marshall to lock in the Claw for a submission win! Marshall runs off the Dynasty by himself to end the show!
Really fun fucking match, I’ll gladly keep watching this religiously if this is the quality of content I’m going to get! I hope yall enjoyed my first review of MLW Fusion! I’ll be back this Tuesday for AEW Dark!
Until next time, Peace out!
