The Krude Experience - Mama I'm Coming Home

Mama I'm Coming Home

Ozzy Osbourne is a true musical living legend. Between being the front man for Black Sabbath and his solo career,Ozzy has been on a continual heavy metal ride for over 50 years. 50 FUCKING YEARS. I'm not even that old. Almost.

What gets Krude inspired to write about a man that has been over explained throughout his career is the recent release of Ozzy's new album Ordinary Man. Ordinary he is not. Not even close.

Ordinary Man is an album that really shouldn't exist at this point. Ozzy has health issues stemming back to 2018 that have kept him from touring. While he is on a 'farewell' tour. So with some down time,Ozzy does what he does best: be Ozzy. On record this time.

Ozzy's studio albums since 1980 have been consistently solid. Some awesome. Some just good. No true clunkers in his discography. Ordinary Man falls somewhere in the 'good' file. His voice is showing signs of obvious age and abuse. That is kinda of good thing. Makes him sound more sinister on some tracks. The songs fall into a classic Ozzy metal sound with modern production flourishes spinkled in. The album opens with a track called Straight To Hell. Then barrels its way into All My Life. That leads into Goodbye. Is Ozzy trying to tell us something here?

Elton John(?!!??) guests on the title track. With EJ sounding rougher than Ozzy. They don't duet. Thankfully. Decent tune. Post Malone and Travis Scott guest on the final track of the album Take What You Want. This tune shouldn't be on an Ozzy album. This is hip hop lite with AutoTune vocals. Wonder who talked Ozzy into doing this track? Hmmmm....

Ordinary Man is a solid album that Ozzy should be proud of. It is not anywhere near his best work. But for a 70 year old drug and alcohol addict, it is remarkable he is still this vital with making music.

Of course,Krude bought the compact disc of this album. Physical copy (not named vinyl) is my game. I don't see a reason to upgrade this album to 24 bit HD. The cd sounds fine. Like they usually do.

If this is Ozzy's swan song with recorded output,so be it. I'm not complaining. Compared to the awful Black Sabbath album 13 from a few years ago, Ordinary Man holds it own. Check it out. Cheers!
