AEW Revolution - Jericho v. Moxley

AEWs first PPV of the decade was Revolution. I personally was excited for this one more than any previous PPVs. They most definitely delivered a hell of a show.

The match on the Buy In was Dark Order vs SCU. I was looking forward to this match hoping/thinking that The Exalted One would show up. Decent match. Scorpio Sky is so good on a side note.
Dark Order won and attacked SCU. Colt Cabana ran down to help (he is now signed to AEW) but Dark Order has too many members and took out Colt.
Next, a person who we all thought was the Exalted One, came out in a robe. It was Christopher Daniels of SCU and he ran to the ring and went after Dark Order. He’s not The Exalted One. Still hoping it’s Matt Hardy.

The opening match of Revolution was Dustin Rhodes vs. Jake Hager. Good match. Some drama with Dustin kissing Hager’s wife, and he was also wearing a shirt saying, “I’m here to fight Jericho’s bitch”. I got a laugh out of that. Jake Hager picked up the win and I’ll be ok if this storyline ends in all honesty.

Next match was Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara. Darby wasted no time going after Sammy and most of the match took place before the bell even rang. This was one of the matches that had my attention the most and both delivered some great wrestling.
Darby and Sammy are both so young and talented. They are the future of the business. Darby got the much-deserved win and some retribution.

Now onto the best match of the night, in my opinion, for the AEW Word Tag Team Championship. The Young Bucks vs. Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page. There’s so much backstory here, which made for a great match and drama during and after. The crowd was really behind Omega and especially Page. The match was fast-paced, and all four wrestlers involved are fantastic at tag team wrestling.
The tensions of The Elite splitting up was told throughout the match. Especially when Page spit in Matts face. Omega and Page ended up getting the win and the Young Bucks attempt to congratulate them. Page doesn’t seem to care, and it almost looked like he was going to turn on Kenny but didn’t. I’m fully on board with this slow-paced breakdown of The Elite.

Kris Statlander vs. Nyla Rose for the AEW Women’s Championship was up next. Good match and I think Kris Statlander did a great job holding her own against Nyla. She deserved a title shot and has a lot of potential. Nyla retained but both women did a great job.

Next up is Cody vs. MJF. No doubt the most emotionally invested match for everyone. No one wants to see Cody lose this one. While the match was good the cheating of MJF and Cody’s determination were the highlights for sure. MJF even pulled off Cody’s boot and bit his broken toe. Yikes. Then he went and tried to soften up Cody by hugging him and apologizing only to spit in his face. I didn’t see Cody buying into that. At some point MJF got busted open and was bleeding. Nice to not see Cody bleeding for a change.
After hitting Cody with the AEW Dynamite Diamond Ring, MJF picks up the win. A win is a win and MJF is still undefeated. Whether you like it or not.

Orange Cassidy’s AEW debut match against PAC was on next. Not only was this a fun match but it gave fans a chance to see that Orange Cassidy can indeed be taken seriously as a wrestler. PAC is a great wrestler and picked up the win, but make no mistake about it, Orange Cassidy held his own. I enjoyed this match a lot. Hope Orange Cassidy wrestles more now.

Onto the main event we go. Jon Moxley vs. Chris Jericho for the AEW World Championship. Great main event. Lots of interference from The Inner Circle as expected. Ref Aubrey sending Inner Circle to the back was the right move. It was just Jericho and Moxley in the ring. Once Moxley revealed to Jericho that his bad eye was healed, it was over. Moxley pinned Jericho to become the new AEW World Champion which was the right move. I’ve been saying it for weeks that right now Moxley is the only one who makes sense to take the title off Jericho.
After the match Moxley gives us an emotionally charged speech about how much he loves this shit and how he’s happy now. It shows. He deserves it.

AEW is really on a roll right now. Tony Khan is a wrestling fan and knows exactly what to give us. I enjoyed Revolution more than I thought I would. I plan on talking about this and AEW more on the next episode of Barstools & Bodyslams. See you for the next Dynamite!
