Episode 24 of Action Clash is the most important broadcast of the year so far for New South! This show is the lead-in to the 2021 HOSS Tournament. Going by what went down on this past week’s episode, we’ve got a lot to look forward to as HOSS season peaks in the first weekend of March. By the end of Episode 24 the tournament bracket was complete and memorable matches were announced after the hour. This is going to be something you want to get in on, so be sure to watch both nights of #HOSS2021 live on IWTV on March 5th and 6th!

On Commentary: Mose and Carmen Michael

So far both Carmen and Mose have done an excellent job in calling the action throughout HOSS season. The actual weekend of the tournament is going to be two nights of out and out action, so this will be a solid challenge to see how the both of them do on commentary for the big event. I think they’re very much up for the job! As the New South commentary team continues to improve I wonder if we’ll see character variations; Carmen and Mose have done well being mostly impartial when calling the action but I think it’d be fun to have one become more partisan for the rulebreakers. This would be good, if anything just to give the commentary table that old-school feel.

Match 1: Cabana Man Dan vs. Kevin Ku

If you’re still wondering how I Am Sam maintains the clout and connections to get Kevin Ku in this match against CMD, you’re not alone. I’m actually pretty thankful Sam hooked us all up with Kevin Ku back in the New South ring, because he and the Castaway delivered one hundred percent fire to start the show. If you want to introduce a new fan to this promotion, include this match on your watch list! Ku is a brutal, brutal man and CMD does not back down one bit.

Excellent match with CMD getting the win and doing New South proud...that is until I Am Sam, the one we have to thank for this match, hit the ring with his squad to attack Dan immediately after his victory.

Match 2: I Am Sam vs. Cabana Man Dan

Sam tried it! He tried it and he had his crew try it too. He thought he could just waltz right in and attack CMD after a hard-fought match with his hand-picked representative. Not on the Castaway’s watch! Dan was game for one more match, and that’s an indicator that we’re seeing a completely different man here. This is new territory that Sam decided to trespass on, and he did it to his own peril. If CMD had the opportunity to go one on one with Sam on his own, we would finally see richly deserved justice. As it was, however, Sam and his crew once again took the coward’s path and attacked Dan to end the match. Thankfully the New South General Manager wasn’t going to stand for any further insubordination; Dump Sanders made it to ringside with a paddle (complete with holes for the extra sting!) and chased off the offenders like any good administrator would.

Match 3: Donnie Janela vs. Dillon McQueen (w/Kenzie Paige and Babie) (HOSS Qualifying Match)

This one is the grudge match that doubled as a HOSS qualifier for both opponents. Going into this one there was no love lost and much animosity gained between Dillon and Donnie; it was a constant and quite entertaining back-and-forth war of words between them on social media. Once the bell rang to start the match, all the talk turned to action. I’d say both Janela and McQueen were out to destroy one another just as much as they were out to win their spot in this year’s tournament. Solid qualifying match with the resident Gaytriarch and tag team champion getting the win over the Steel Dragon and advancing in the tournament. Interference from McQueen’s fellow partner and co-champion Kenzie Paige provided enough of a distraction to Donnie for Dillon to take full advantage. Petty in Pink is now on the way to HOSS!

Main Event: Jaden Newman vs. Jordan Oliver (HOSS Qualifying Match)

Awesome main event this week! This match was the second appearance Jordan Oliver’s had at New South, and once again he was in top form. Jaden Newman has had a stellar couple of weeks recently in the New South ring, and the result of this match could be either the period at the end of his statement or a fragmented sentence that would leave him just short of this year’s tournament. If Jordan Oliver were to advance, it’d be his first showing in HOSS and an opportunity to show the South what the new and improved Big Breakfast can do. Bragging rights were on the line here just as much as the shot at the tournament. This one really could have gone either way at many points in the match, but Jaden Newman came through with the victory and as a result was the final qualifying entrant in this year’s HOSS bracket. Great, great stuff.

Post-Show Thoughts

Every match had its own unique importance this week, and I enjoyed it immensely! The after show content featured the finalized HOSS bracket, and it’s a killer. Names like Colin Delaney, Max the Impaler, Davey Boy Smith Jr., Matthew Justice, Nolan Edward, O’Shay Edwards, and so many more are going to be a part of this year’s tournament. It’s official, friends - this promotion has made its mark on 2021’s independent wrestling scene. HOSS season shows off its own style prior to Mania season, and no matter what greatness is in store for us in Tampa this spring, don’t forget it’s New South who brought the heat and warmed things up down here first.
