The Spirit of 76
Taking a chance on something unknown sometimes pays off
bigly. Giving some effort and time to a 3 decade old movie can have its
benefits. Krüde found a true winner of a flick recently while cruising
the worldwideweb. The Spirit of 76 is the name of the 1990 movie. And
Krüde is gonna review it for you.
The criteria for me to finding a cool, mostly unknown movie
evolves around the stars of the picture. This movie is loaded with my kind of
favorite actors. Look at these names: David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, Carl
Reiner, Rob Reiner, Moon Zappa, Redd Kross, Devo…… A stellar list of talent to
grace the screen.
The premise of the movie is people in the the year 2176
want to know what our Constitution says. Not sure why they didn’t save a
copy, but fuck it. David Cassidy has built a time machine that can go back to 1776
to get the real copy of the document. Somehow in their travel back in time, they
get stuck in 1976. And then the fun begins.
Since I was born in 1970, I am able pick up on all the 70s lingo
and looks. Leif Garrett as a primitive form of a disco guido is great. Carl
Reiner picks his nose less than two minutes into the picture. The soundtrack to
the movie is done with original recordings from the 70s as well. All in all it’s a fun, silly little movie that
I never heard of before a few weeks ago. So I just had to purchase it for
eternity.
We are fast approaching our 250 year anniversary as being the
United States of America. If there is one holiday to truly celebrate in
America, it is Forth of July.
So march on down to your local video store. Or favorite streaming service. And smash the touchscreen to buy this almost forgotten classic. Be sure to eat stove top made Jiffy Pop while watching. Right on!
Bubble Yum never contained spider eggs. I think…..
