NWA Empowerrr

Last night the National Wrestling Alliance promoted the first ever all women's PPV in their storied history. While there were ups and downs throughout the night, you'd be hard pressed to see the show over all as anything other than a successful night of empowerment for women's professional wrestling.

The Highs

Allysin Kay and Marti Belle returned to the NWA as a team, HEX, becoming NWA Women's tag team champions. The title has been dormant since vacated sometime in 1984. From my knowledge Kay is not contractually signed with the NWA any longer but has held the NWA women's title in the past.

Kamille surprised me with a really nice showing at the show, defeating Leyla Hirsch in thirteen minutes. I'm still not sold as a whole on Kamille, but she proved on Saturday night that she can go.

Deonna Purazzo continues to be among the top women's wrestlers in North America, holding onto her Impact Knockouts title against Melina.

And Chelsea Green outlasted nine other competitors in the Women's Invitational Cup to earn herself a shot at the NWA Women's title against Kamille on Sunday at NWA 73.

The Lows

Streaming issues were an aggravation again. I wanted to watch along with members of twitter and discuss what was going on, but my stream (and that of many I spoke with) was filled with lagging, buffering and at times not even showing video of the show. If the NWA wants to be looked at as a competitor in the wrestling world real estate, it needs to find a solution to these broadcast errors.

The set itself was fine, but for a show of this magnitude, I was not blown away. It felt more akin to an independent wrestling show, which, is fine on the surface. However, if the NWA wants to be taken seriously, the brand needs an overhaul on it's over all aesthetic.

I know they are trying to get as many eyes on the product as possible, but interjecting Nick Aldis into the show was a downer for me. This was the women's night and I don't think any of Sunday's angles should have been represented.

The Big Take Away

Lady Frost cemented her mark Saturday night as one of the women to watch. Now, I've long been a fan of Frost, who has an unbelievable look that is matched by intensity and and ridiculous amount of confidence for a woman who has only been wrestling for a few years. The sky is genuinely the limit for this talented individual.

Purrazzo, Green, Rae are three women are fucking amazing. That's really all i can say about them. Women's wrestling in 2021 is in such great fucking shape. I, at times, thought the night was a little over dramatic, pushing a narrative that I didn't really grasp, but at the end of the day it wasn't about anything I felt or thought. It was about the talents in the ring, getting their shine, finally.

And that's the point.
