It's the first Four Loko Friday of 2020, so we have to start things off with a bang! After the hard seltzer rush this past summer, it was announced that Four Loko was going to throw their hat into the ring with a hard seltzer of their own. At first people were skeptical about the news and thought it was just a publicity stunt, but lo and behold, Four Loko Hard Seltzer actually became a real thing with the release of Four Loko Hard Seltzer Black Cherry in November 2019.
The first flavor in the Four Loko Hard Seltzer "Innovation Series" is Black Cherry coming in at 12% ALC/VOL. Four Loko is calling it "The hardest seltzer in the universe with a hint of black cherry" and they aren't wrong. Most other hard seltzers are coming in at between 4 and 6 percent ABV, so it is technically the hardest hard seltzer on the market. I have still yet to try a White Claw, or Truly, or the any of the new just announced Bud Light Seltzers, so the only hard seltzer I cracked open so far was the Natty Light Catalina Lime Mixer, which didn't leave me feeling very warm and fuzzy about the hard seltzer fad. It will be interesting to see how the Four Loko ranks compared to that one.
How does it taste? It's actually not that bad. The first sip was a little strong on the black cherry flavor, but the more you drink it starts to go down easier. I was afraid it was going to have a strong cherry cough syrup flavor at first like the Natty Light Catalina Lime Mixer, but the higher alcohol content helps to dilute the flavor. I don't see the fans of White Claw turning to Four Loko to get their hard seltzer fix since most people seem to like the low calorie count of the seltzer mixed with alcohol, but I still can't find the actual calorie count in the Four Loko Hard Seltzer, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be at the same level. Overall the Four Loko Hard Seltzer Black Cherry will get you a good buzz, but why?
