This week AEW Dynamite opened with Jake Roberts talking about how Lance Archer is made for the TNT Championship. He goes on to say Colt Cabana is good…but not good enough. Chris Jericho and Tony Schiavone are on commentary. I honestly wouldn’t mind Jericho on commentary more often.
The TNT Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match was the first match of the night. Lance Archer vs Colt Cabana. Lance Archer looks unstoppable. He ultimately got the win in a good match up and advances to the Semi Finals. Although I believe Darby Allin will win the TNT Championship, I can’t help but think of how he’s supposed to beat Archer. He is looking more and more dominant each week.
To fill in gaps here and there, there were a lot of videos hyping up the Main Event match Jon Moxley vs Jake Hager.
The next match was Cassandra Golden vs Britt Baker. Britt Baker picked up an easy win. Not much to talk about. Britt is making a great name for herself.
The Bubbly Bunch was hilarious. They were all connected from home on their cell phones.
Santana and Ortiz were talking about the Young Bucks, Sammy was talking about Matt Hardy, Hager was talking about Kenny Omega at Blood and Guts, and Moxley of course. Chris Jericho was hyping up his Inner Circle pals while talking about Hangman Adam Page and Cody. This makes me excited for Blood & Guts to hopefully happen soon.
The third match of the night was Sammy Guevara vs. Suge D “Pineapple Pete”. I had no doubt in my mind that Sammy would get the win in this match and he did. After the match Sammy gives a “spoiler” that he will beat Darby Allin, then goes back and attacks Suge D. Darby comes out and Sammy leaves.
Next match was Kip Sabian w/Penelope Ford vs. Chuck Taylor of Best Friends w/Orange Cassidy. Good match that kept my interest the entire time. Probably my favorite match of the night. Ford tried to distract Chuck Taylor by taking her jacket off, so Orange Cassidy did the same thing to Kip Sabian. Jimmy Havoc attacks Orange Cassidy and Ford helps Sabian in the ring. Kip got the win.
Moving along we got Shawn Spears vs. Justin Law. Spears picked up the win here as we knew he would. If anything, I’m glad to see more of him on Dynamite. I hope this continues even when fans are back.
The Main Event was Jake Hager vs. Jon Moxley in a no holds barred empty arena match for the AEW World Championship. JR was solo on commentary. While this was probably the perfect opportunity to hold an empty arena match, it was a bit long and drawn out. The idea was great I just don’t think it should’ve been a title match. However, I will say both men put their all in. They really beat the hell out of each other. I think most people knew that Jon Moxley was going to win especially with the current situation.
It’s been a weird time for everyone. I’m glad we still have wrestling to keep us entertained. Stay safe!
