AEW Recap - 5/27/20 - Hit's & Misses

AEW Hit & Misses

Hit - FTR debuts

After the opening six-man tag match, FTR finally made their debut with the company - first attacking The Butcher & The Blade, then seemingly about to tangle with The Young Bucks.

Someone on twitter lamented that we've lost out on a lot of huge fan fueled pops with these debuts, but I think once fans are allowed ringside again, they'll have been holding in these celebrations for so long, roofs will be blown away weekly.

Miss - Vicky Guerro.

I want nothing to do with her on my TV. This stems from WWE days - I just don't find her entertaining. At all.

Just my opinion.

Hit - Cody Rhode's speech.

There isn't another man on the United States wrestling scene (main stream) that talks on the mic like Rhodes, with exception to Chris Jericho.

He could be selling jelly beans, and I'd buy the shit.

Miss - MJF

Man, six months ago, MJF was the best heel in the business. Now all I see is a cartoon character. Where once there was a meanness, there's just comedy pretending to be heel.

Hit - Jungle Boy Jack winning TNT Rumble.

What a fucking surprise! Honestly, the way MJF and Wardlow came out separate, I thought that was some foreshadowing of the battle royal itself. I thought it would come down to the two, and Wardlow would throw himself out.

Jungle Boy winning was one of those things that, when done right, really pop you positively. Something that's lacking a lot of times in mainstream wrestling shows.

Miss - Mike Tyson on Dynamite.

Listen ... I understand the reason why. I do. It'll get mainstream press for a fledgling company looking for extra eyeballs outside of it's "Inner circle" of fans. But If i'm going to be honest and consistent in my ideals and reporting ... Tyson takes away time from full time wrestlers looking for work.

The same thing we've bitched about WWE for years now. I understand the reasoning, but hate it.

Plus, if we're being honest - when he's "acting" like a badass, it comes off cartoonish. He's a horrible fucking actor.

Hit - Inner Circle Celebration.

Man, even during the roughest of times, the gifts were flowing and the camaraderie felt. What a heart warming moment in prowrestling.

Hager's poem was a bit ... aggressive.

WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
