The Krude Experience - Veni Vidi Vici almost....

Veni Vidi Vici  almost....

Krude made it to erectus Gold status primarily in one piece. Gold being a standard of human age that represents approximately 60% of an average life has been lived. I'M 50 MOTHERFUCKERS. Suck on that. Careful with the teeth.

Turning half a century old doesn't mean nothing to Krude. I decided to do something on my birthday that I've never done before (not much left I haven't done before). New Orleans, here I come!

For some odd reason, getting my motley ass to NOLA has always been a 'next year' kind of thing. All of those 'next years' turned into decades. And the decades have turned into a half hundred. So the choice was clear: Book it Dan-O

My initial impression of NOLA after touching down wasn't a pleasant one. Uber reared it's very ugly head when I needed a lift to my hotel. Seems their GPS services were fucked and my driver was over 20 minutes late. Not fun waiting outside in the muggy heat. Fuck it. I won't let a shitty car service company get me down. Just bummed no cabs were circling the NOLA airport area like hungry sharks. Like I see in NJ/NY airports

The late, but super cool Uber driver takes me on a scenic drive to my lodgings. I see everything from the Superdome to areas that were decimated during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Then to my 5 room hotel. Cool little place. Nice funky courtyard behind my room to chill at any hour. Or melt. Whichever works at that moment. Hint: Melt

A 10 minute walk to a CVS for some tummy acid pills nets Krude a new best friend. Meet Jethro T.Boots. He (Kentucky bourbon) cost a not so whopping $9.99 a fifth!!! A true rotgut  made exclusively for CVS,a pharmacy. This hooch is Krude approved, not for its taste or quality. It is approved just cuz because it starts a new 'bum' booze genre: Bum bourbon. At 80 proof. Whew! No brown bags at CVS. Like duh.

NOLA during this awful COVID-19 ordeal is a ghost town. Most businesses in the French Quarter where I'm staying are closed up. A few restaurants/bars are open though. Drinking hooch is ok on the street. But it seems like the soul of this place has evaporated into the steamy air. The storied older buildings remain the same. It's the people who live here who seem defeated. Not sure if it's the oppressive humid heat or the mandatory mask wearing being required in public buildings that is sapping NOLAites of their charm. Probably a little of both. Bless their hearts

I find a few oddities while roaming the French Quarter streets. Of course,I snap pics. Free beer during Saints games at one bar. A huge ruby slipper (with fried egg on top) at a breakfast place called, you guessed it The Ruby Slipper. Found some cheap, personal box wine (26 proof!) for $3.99. Didn't see any Four Loko or other Northeast NJ bottom shelf favorites. No biggie.NOLA has plenty of absinthe choices at nearly every booze seller. Nothing like a absinthe buzz...

My little trip to NOLA was a much needed excursion. Not having traveled ANYWHERE since March 2020 made me appreciate the adventure of turning 50 years old in a funky city all the more. I will be back to NOLA much sooner than later. Cool place. Krude approved.

Had a short layover in Austin,Texas before heading back to EWR. Lone Star beer at the Austin airport bar hit the spot. Always does. Hard to find this brew in NJ.

Another Krude adventure for the ages. More to come....
