Zelo Pro:  The Show Must (Safely) Go On Recap

Turner Hall Ballroom, Milwaukee, WI, live broadcast on Fite.tv (replays available now, use the bwbppv.com link!)

Zelo Pro returned to PPV on Saturday October 17th with a card that was greatly shuffled due to cancellations and performers awaiting COVID -19 test results.  Nevertheless, they adapted and pressed on with a show that highlighted many new-to-Zelo faces.  There were many big moves and announcements that happened outside the confines of the ring as well.  Zelo will return to the same location for “Level Up” on November 21st.

4-Way Women's Division:  Missa Kate defeated Annie Apples (fka Jay Raves), Skye Blue and “Evil” Sierra

The ladies seemed to pair off into teams at the outset: Annie/Sierra and Kate/Blue.  These partnerships would be very short-lived as it was first fall takes it.  Apples and Sierra fought over pin attempts as they worked over Kate.  Once Skye made her way back into the fray, Blue and Kate started getting an advantage.  In the end, it was all a ruse from Missa Kate.  After playing nice for so long, she blasted Blue with a back spin kick and got the pin.

She turned her back on Laynie Luck and now Skye Blue...what is the end game for Missa Kate?

After the match, it was announced that Shaul Guererro would make her debut on the November show.

Bang Bros. (August Matthews & Davey Bang) defeated Country Air (Doc Simmons & Zach Hendrix)

A good evenly-matched tag affair.  This was Country Air's Zelo debut, two of many new faces that were seen as the night wore on.  Dual 450 splashes and a double pin by the Bros is how this one finished.

Trevor Outlaw defeated Jacob Dean

Rival students from Freelance Wrestling Academy tore into each other in this contest.  Jacob seemed to have the upper hand for most of this match, though smart (yet dirty) tactics from Outlaw prevailed.  Trevor undid and then threw his wrist tape to the mat.  The ref went to pick it up, Outlaw kicked Dean very low and small packaged him for the win.

5-Person Gauntlet:  Johnny Crowley defeated Israel Angels, Koda Hernandez, Alex Slade and Darius Latrell

Israel and Koda were the initial two at the start.  Angels eliminated Koda by pin after a moonsault press.  Crowley entered and pinned Angels after a pop-up powerbomb.  Slade now out and after a bit of having Crowley reeling, ended up on the wrong end of a crisp spinebuster from Johnny.  Crowley pinned Slade and out came the final participant 6'8” Latrell.  Darius used his reach and height to toy with Crowley.  After quite a bit of showboating from Latrell, Crowley had enough.  Johnny responded with an eye rake and a big spear for the win.

After the gauntlet match, the Zelo Pro Championship was unveiled and introduced.  It is open to the entire Zelo roster with no weight limits and no gender restrictions.  Qualifying matches to get into the title picture will occur at upcoming shows, with a champion crowned in “early 2021”.

Qualifier for Zelo Pro Championship:  Bryce Benjamin defeated Mojo McQueen

Bryce tried finesse and McQueen tried to throw his opponent everywhere at the start.  As Mojo wore Benjamin down, Bryce became more desperate.  Benjamin grabbed a foreign object from under the ring and caught the Voodoo King Mojo.  Bryce then delivered FOUR top-rope elbows and went for a cover.  McQueen kicks out at 1.  Mojo responds with a giant chokeslam, but only gets 2.  McQueen then went to a box he brought to ringside with him and pulls from it a Voodoo doll.  He spikes the doll in the stomach and Benjamin doubles over coughing and screaming.  After hacking up a bit of blood, Bryce springs back to life after the ref removed the pin from the doll.  A quick roll-up in the midst of the hubbub and Benjamin not only wins, but escapes further dangerous sorcery.

6-Person Tag:  Matt Rehwoldt, CJ Esparza and Mason Conrad defeated Jason Hades, Storm Grayson and Brubaker

Drama King Matt and Filth King Brubaker brought their teams into battle.  On this night, the Drama King's forces prevailed with Rehwoldt getting the pin on Grayson after the Final Cut.  Everyone looked good in this match, which will surely lead to a King v. King singles bout down the road.

2 out of 3 Falls for the Zelo Pro Women's Championship:  Laynie Luck (c) retains over Alex Gracia

The first fall finished strangely as Elayna Black's music came over the PA system.  The distraction allowed Gracia to catch Luck in a La Magistral cradle for the first pinfall.  Gracia 1-0.

Gracia seemed well in control of the second and was looking to finish Laynie off.  Alex hit a 619 and then her roll-in shoulder block but Luck caught her in a crucifix for a flash pin.  Tied at 1 fall each.

The third fall ended with another clever counter as Layne caught Alex off a sprinboard attempt with a well-placed UniCutter.  The Party Unicorn survived the challenge of the Pink Dream and extended her title reign to day 430.

After the match, a video popped up with Elayna Black.  Black explained that she didn't want to cost Laynie the title, she wants to be the one to take it from Luck.  The video ended with Black making a challenge for the title at the November show.
