Kasey Catal ended 2019 in a match that defined her career against Jimmy Lloyd. Could her final match in 2020 redefine her career? Last year she was in a match with boards and barbwire, but this year she takes on one of the best technical female wrestlers today, Solo Darling. If she is able to survive this match and pull out the victory, she will prove that she deserves to hold the cruiserweight crown and is up for any challenge.
Catal won the Cruiserweight crown on Synergy’s last show, Black Friday, in a street fight against TJ Crawford using her trademark Kendo stick to make TJ tap out. However, she will not have that weapon at her disposal against Solo and will have to go toe to toe with the veteran. This is a first-time matchup and, in my opinion, it is a dream match.
Solo clearly has more experience than Catal and will look to use that to her advantage. Even though she has had most of her success as a tag team competitor, capturing the Chikara tag team championships three times, twice with Willow Nightingale and once with Travis Huckabee, she has proven throughout her 11 year career that she can handle things on her own and looks to capture her first major singles championship. Solo was on both the PWI 500, at 318 and women’s 100, at 72, proving the impact that she has on independent wrestling. She is best known for her striking ability and her submission skills, being able to knock you out with her Lights out Round About or make you tap out with the Sharpstinger.
Catal has been wrestling for over 3 years and has really taken her game to a new level this year at Synergy. She opened the year victorious in a 3-way match against Charles Mason and Joey Silver. Since then she has been chasing the Cruiserweight Crown and was constantly derailed by TJ Crawford and some of his underhanded tactics until she was finally able to defeat him at Black Friday. She has also had incredible matches against LSG and Ellis Taylor. Catal has proven her toughness in brutal fights against both men and women, but this may be her most well-rounded opponent.
This is a historic match as it is the first time that a female will be defending a championship in Synergy. These are 2 of the toughest women in wrestling today, so it is going to take a lot to win this match and they are sure to end 2020 with something for you to remember.
