Lee Moriarty vs Daniel Garcia

This is a very interesting matchup, as Garcia has the experience advantage over Lee, but Lee is one of the hottest wrestlers in independent wrestling today.  Both have extensive striking and submission ability, but Lee may be able to throw Garcia off with his unique mix of different styles as he takes a little bit from everywhere, from Lucha to Joshi.  I feel that many have Lee the favorite to win not only this match but the whole tournament since he has been on such a roll, but do not count out Red Death.    Garcia is known for his toughness and will not give an inch to anyone.  Garcia is from Buffalo but has wrestled across the US and Canada in companies such as Evolve, Smash, Beyond and ICW NHB.  He has also had some recent matches in AEW, teaming with another tournament competitor, Kevin Blackwood.  Garcia has made multiple appearances in Limitless Wrestling.  He has been in Limitless twice this year,  the first at “Flirtin with Disaster” where he defeated Oswald Project but then started talking a little too much and ended up losing to Kris Statlander.  His other appearance was at “Practice What You Preach”, where he had a very impressive victory over Ashley Vox.  This is Lee Moriarty’s first appearance in a Limitless ring; however, most fans are familiar with him from his recent matches at GCW, AIW, BLP and countless other promotions.  It seems like Lee caught everyone’s attention at the end of 2019 with his match against Alex Shelley in AIW and there has been no looking back for him.  If Lee is able to make it past Garcia, he has tough competition, but is no stranger to wrestling multiple matches in 1 day.  At the Collective, Lee wrestled 6 matches in 2 days, including match of the year candidate against Daniel Makabe.  He has also wrestled in the PPW Fighting Spirit Heavyweight Grand Prix and made it to the finals of the IWC Super Indy Tournament this year.  While Lee is a wrestler of the year candidate, he will not look past Daniel Garcia, as Garcia has proven he can beat big name opponents with victories over the likes of Josh Alexander and Josh Briggs.  Look for a hard-hitting match with some crazy submission attempts, this is one of the matches that people have circled and are really looking forward to in the first round.

Alec Prize vs Ace Romero

This is a match between a promising young rookie and an experienced veteran.  They have met twice before on The Road and have split the matches, so this will be the rubber match.  Both of their previous matches were very exciting and competitive.  In the first one Ace made Alec’s chest red and won with a devastating clothesline, but Alec stood toe to toe with him and challenged him to a second, which he won with the Surprise kick.   Alec will look to utilize his quickness, along with some of his underhand tactics that he is known to use, to win the rubber match and advance in the tournament.  Alec has looked extremely impressive in his matches on The Road, winning his last 4 against Ace, Becca, Tyree Taylor and Ella Markopoulos.  Alec is very brash and looks like someone that Ace could dispose of quickly, but he will use his craftiness to avoid Ace and could very well hit him with the Surprise Kick again for the win.  Alec has competed in a tournament before in Beyond Wrestling, having defeated Josh Briggs in the first round of the Tournament of Tomorrow, before falling to fellow Vacationland Tournament competitor Christian Casanova.

Ace for lack of a better word, has been the ace of Limitless wrestling.  He was on their first ever show and has been a main staple ever since. Ace has shared the ring with pretty much everyone that has been through Limitless including the 2 former champions, Anthony Greene and MJF.  He has victories in Limitless over the likes of Darby Allin, Keith Lee and Sami Calihan.  Lately Ace has been teaming with Larry D in Impact as ½ of XXXL.  Do not let Ace’s size fool you, he is very athletic and can fly around that ring, but the question is, can he keep up with “The Prize” Alec Price and move on in the tournament?

CJ Cruz vs Christian Casanova

CJ Cruz earned his way into the tournament by winning a four-way match against Tryee Taylor, Mac Daniels and Ricky Archer, taking the place of Myron Reed who needed to pull out of the tournament.  CJ is the underdog in this tournament, but he has had a huge upset in a tournament before, beating former Limitless champion, Anthony Greene in last year’s Tournament for Tomorrow for Beyond Wrestling, a tournament which was won by his opponent, Christian Casanova.  CJ is known as the little brick shithouse and is known for his toughness, but will that be enough to overcome one of the hottest stars in independent wrestling today?

Christian Casanova has been pretty much everywhere in the past 2 years and his matches have been can’t miss due to his athleticism.  Whether it has been in a tag team with Tasha Steelz as Culture SZN or on his own, he has impressed everywhere he has been.  Casanova has a very unique set of moves and can put his opponents away with the Remix Leg Drop, the Culture Breaker, Dirty Diana, and the Culture Lock.  He had one of my favorite matches of the year against Myron Reed at Limitless “Practice What You Preach” in February and has defeated top Limitless stars Davienne and Rip Byson this year on The Road.   Casanova is currently the CW Heavyweight Champion and NEW Live Champion and is one of the favorites to win this tournament and become the new Limitless Champion.

JD Drake vs Kevin Blackwood

This should be a hard-hitting match that could go either way.  Both wrestlers have been really making a name for themselves and could get that call to the next level anytime.  Drake had a match of the year candidate at the end of 2019 as part of the WorkHorsemen with Anthony Henry in a 30 min Iron Man match against Violence is Forever, but he has been wrestling most of 2020 as a singles competitor and has had some big wins against the likes of Brian Pillman JR (in Limitless) and over current WWE stars Jake Atlas and Curt Stallion in a three-way match (in Evolve).  Drake has strikes that will leave you wincing from your seat in the crowd but also has athleticism that is not expected for someone his size.  You will think he is an old school wrestler then he will hit you with a dive to the outside or a moonsault that will leave you gasping because you did not think that a man his size could fly like that.

Kevin Blackwood is going to have to use his speed to try to make quick strikes on Drake.  He has a very good striking game, but I do not think that he wants to stand toe to toe with Drake.  This is Blackwood’s 2nd straight year in the Vacationland Cup.  Last year he defeated Christian Casanova in the first round of the tournament.  Blackwood has competed for most of the major companies in the US and Canada including C*4, Beyond, BLP and recently appeared on multiple episodes on AEW Dark.  He has also shown his toughness by taking on Akira in a no ring death match.  Blackwood will try to use all of that toughness and his unique offense to get past Drake and advance in the tournament.

I do not think that there will be a bad match in this tournament, as Limitless never seems to disappoint and all 8 of these wrestlers leave all that they have in the ring.   I would think that going in the favorites to make the finals would be Casanova and Moriarty, but they are going to have some tough matches before they can get there.

This show will also feature multiple nontournament matches.  In what I consider a dream tag team match the Sea Stars, fresh off of their debut with Impact Wrestling,  will face Maine State Posse.  Also, someone that I think will be watching this tournament very closing, Davienne, will take on Becca.  I think Davienne could easily be considered a top contender to whoever comes out of this tournament the champion.
