This week’s review of Beyond’s Signature Series starts out with great news - as announced, the promotion’s return to their glorious stomping grounds at the White Eagle in Worcester, MA will take place in a few weeks on April 1st. In addition to this announcement it’s now known that this show has quickly sold out! That’s how eager the Beyond faithful have been to get back to what we know and love. Fool’s Paradise hasn’t even fully materialized yet as a card and we’re already excited to see what’s on the horizon in Worcester! That positive vibe carries into Episode 3 of Beyond’s Signature Series as both the Tournament for Tomorrow and Greatest Rivals Round Robin matches continue.

On Commentary: Paul Crockett and Sidney Bakabella

It can’t be just me who thinks Crockett and Bakabella seem less at odds with one another in these first few episodes of the Signature Series. While their personalities have thankfully stayed intact, it almost seems as if the pandemic has brought forth a less argumentative Sidney Bakabella? Nah, that can’t be. He must have gotten a bigger check or something that’s keeping him satisfied; heaven knows he’s kept his face prominent on the scene within the past year. Maybe IWTV’s paying Bakabella what he thinks he’s worth!

Match 1: Jody Threat vs. Atticus Cogar

Wherever Atticus Cogar goes, I promise you I will not be able to stand him being there. I’ve watched that one wrestle in numerous places over the past couple of years. Brag on him as they may, I’ll always see Cogar as one of the jerks to be jeered. Talented jerk, but a jerk nonetheless. He rolls with that jerk crew from Ohio (more on that later) too. This is why I was all too happy to cheer on Jody Threat. Not only is Jody the real deal when it comes to a fight, but she’s solid enough of an opponent for Cogar to rock him and knock him on his smug ass. There were moments in this opener where I genuinely thought Cogar had the win, but his comeuppance came not long after he got cocky enough to try to impale skewers into Jody Threat’s forehead. Ref Kris Levin wasn’t having it, and Cogar’s frustration led to his downfall as Threat took the advantage and the win as well via pinfall. Another nice ‘equal fights’ start to the show!

Match 2: [Tag Team Tournament For Tomorrow] Faith In Nothing (Rickey Shane Page and Vincent Nothing) vs. Milk Chocolate (Brandon Watts and Randy Summers)

Come to me with allllll the RSP and Cogar and Ohio love, and then miss me with it! I’ll be the first to admit that Rickey Shane Page is a damn good wrestler whether it’s in singles or tag action. That does not, however, make him worth my cheers. Ohio is pompous enough when it comes to sports in general; I refuse to let RSP or any member of 44OH! continue to spread that nonsense into wrestling. Who needs squads and crews anyway if you have a damn good tag team? Granted, Faith In Nothing is a formidable pair...but they are not Brandon Watts and Randy Summers. Milk Chocolate, as I say often, is in a class on its own. You might argue that Summers & Watts aren’t on the same level as RSP and Vincent Nothing, and you might have merit to your debate. However, a win by any means necessary is certainly not beneath RSP; I know this for a fact! Therefore I’ll argue that Milk Chocolate are on the same level as their Tournament for Tomorrow opponents in this match. They’re so much on the same level that they’d use the same tactics to win, which is exactly what Milk Chocolate did here (even if it took a little power from chocolate powder…). This is the Tournament for Tomorrow, there are no half-measures when it’s time to advance. You heard it here - Milk Chocolate is going ALL THE WAY in this year’s TFT!

Main Event: [Greatest Rivals Round Robin] Tony Deppen vs. Matt Makowski

Let me be the one to say it or to echo it if it’s already been said - it’s Matt Makowski’s summer. Yes, we’re seeing from him now what we expected to see in 2020, but the wait is very much worth it. The history was rich behind this GRRR match, too - going back all the way to the White Eagle in the weekly Discovery Gauntlet matches on Uncharted Territory. You’ll recall that Tony Deppen was the terror of the Gauntlet, costing Makowski his chance in the competition and taking his spot. That all seemed to be old history to Makowski by the time this round robin match came around, though...and I’ll say it’s because we’re seeing a completely different Makowski. This is a ruthless machine of a man who’s not the newcomer just looking for an opportunity. This is the man that’s going to rip opportunity from thin air and set it on fire. We’ve seen how much Deppen has improved over the past year, culminating in two exceptional Iron Matches so far in 2021. That’s the Deppen we’re seeing, and yet we saw this new and improved Makowski take him apart in this Signature Series match for the win. This leaves me wondering...what the hell else are we gonna see in the weeks ahead?!

Post-Show Thoughts

There’s no reason to wonder why Fool’s Paradise sold out so quickly when you have Beyond presenting hour-long episodes of instant classics! These episodes are doing wonders for re-introducing fans back to Beyond Wrestling while intriguing or pulling in new viewers. My hope is this all sets the stage for a return to weekly live shows by the end of the year. The demand is loud and clear.
