Our seats were pretty solid... |
From the pictures above, you may be a shade confused.
On a mild and pleasant Sunday, my friend and I drove to Brookfield, WI to watch AEW Double or Nothing. Instead of the packed Daily's Place crowd however many miles away in Jacksonville, FL, we joined perhaps 30 other people in a Marcus Theaters Movie Tavern.
This was my first experience taking in any sort of live event at a movie theater. I've been all about new experiences, vibes and locales for my wrestling fix as of late, so it seemed like something worth trying out. Tickets were roughly $25 apiece, so either my friend and I see it for $50 or I pay that same price watching at home.
In my eyes, there were quite a few pluses going this route: the big and comfy adjustable recliners, the joy of movie theater popcorn and social distancing. Think what you want about that last point, but I've actually gotten used to having a bit of space now and wonder how I'll handle being a sardine again once we get there. I'm sure I'll adapt, but I don't mind things the current way either.
It's also pretty fun to not be expected to be quiet in a theater. Chants were joined in on, occasional applause broke out and the odd snarky comment grabbing some laughs all helped the atmosphere. It was definitely a different way to enjoy a wrestling show and I'd do it again.
In the future, if a theater by your locale is carrying one of the wrestling events, I'd suggest giving it a shot. Shooting the breeze with "strangers" is part of the fun of going to shows in the first place and doing so in a theater is a unique environment for it. Go be social with some like-minded folks, set that recliner where you want and enjoy our feature presentation!
