It was announced earlier this week that Pepsi is teaming with Boston Beer Co. on a "Hard Mountain Dew", flavored malt beverage coming in at 5% abv. that's expected to hit the market in early 2022. As you can expect the world wide web went bonkers with the news about this new beverage, but when you look at the fine print we have some questions. ZERO SUGAR and no caffeine? Where's the fun in that? Is this just going to be a low rent Mountain Dew seltzer?
Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that we've been mixing up a boozy Mountain Dew for YEARS at bumwinebob.com with the legendary THUNDER DEW concoction. Two parts mountain Dew and one part Thunderbird Wine, or you can mix it up to you linking. Want a little extra kick of that dirty bird? Throw in some extra Thunderbird. Now this isn't the first time that someone tried to capitalize on the popularity of the THUNDER DEW concoction. Gallo Wines themselves released the Thunderbird Hard Citrus Brew that was an attempt at a citrus malt beverage that inevitably failed to catch on in the market.
Remember Not Your Father's Mountain Ale? Not many people do. That was a one and done experiment.
Will the new Hard Mountain Dew catch on? Only time will tell once it's released, but don't forget that if you can still find a bottle of Thunderbird, mix it up with your favorite Mountain Dew flavor and be prepared to have a good time!
