“Look in my eyes, what do you see? A bunch of tears flowing for me”
Seven years, seven fuckin years of missing this guy. Seven long ass years of chanting:
CM PUNK … CM PUNK … CM PUNK ...
We got loud when shit was boring. Seven years of missing OUR guy, the guy that we knew should have been main eventing Wrestlemania. Seven years of seeing our guy show up at Chicago Cubs games UFCs and Blackhawks games. We watched The Girl on the 3 Floor and Jakobs’s Wife. It wasn’t what we wanted. We needed Wrestling Phil Brooks. Seven years of watching “The Genius” bury guys that we thought, hoped and wished would be able to fill that void. We chanted YES YES YES!! We wanted a Showoff. We chanted YEP YEP YEP!! We saw our Demon and demanded to see The Man. We got Kofi mania and seen it put out in seconds. We wanted OUR guys to be featured we wanted a Fiend to fill our void. We wanted to see people get those hands. We wanted to see a caterpillar get the Rose. Shit man we even wanted a Hurt Business to pull us thru. We wanted to love wrestling again but we kept getting sports entertainment from a man who has lost touch of entertainment. We laughed when Shane, Paul and Stephanie said they would listen to the fans. Seven years of eating shit
We busted a 7 year nut and yeah we got emotional about it. So what? In Chicago we love our guys, we treat our guys like gods when they bust their asses. We treat our guys like GOATs when they show up and play a finals game with the flu. We treat our guys like kings when they break curses and show the world that Chicago will out work any motherfucker out there. We treat our guys like icons when they walk thru the curtain after 7 years of sticking to their word. Punk said he wasn’t gonna work for a shit company and do shit TV and we knew it.
We knew that this guy would stand by his word and we wanted “The Genius” and Paul to “listen to the fans”. However we knew they wouldn’t because they couldn’t get past the fact that we wanted to see our guy whip their asses. When friends say I need that “Punk Pop” in my veins they mean it. We watched our teams trade away our best players. We needed to hear 20,000 people in unison lose their fucking minds. You think anyone in that building cared who voted for who? Who believed what about mandates or any of that shit? No it was 20,000 WRESTLING fans getting lost in a moment that was beautiful. We needed this, we needed that release, we needed to lose our minds and forget about all of this shit that is going on. We needed to feel that rush again. We knew what WRESTLING can do for us and we got it.
And tonight, Darby is going to understand exactly what that means.
