The Krude Experience - Cereal Killer

Cereal Killer

Since I was born in 1970, Krüde had/has been given the speech by elders that “sugary breakfast cereals will rot your teeth out”. So I wasn’t allowed to eat those kind of cereals as a kid. And didn’t start eating sweet cereals until maybe 4 years ago. Ain’t that a weird thang

I recall our parents would often tank up us 1970s kids with super sugary potables such as Hawaiian Punch. Or the king of all kid drinks: Kool Aid. Good stuff. But equally tooth rotting. Add to that chocolate milk at school lunches. Our teeth were compromised every which way we lived

Lucky Charms and Cocoa Pebbles are my current favorites. I don’t drink coffee. I take dollar store energy tabs for a morning boost. Buying a coffee at a Starbucks recently for my gf is the reason I’m writing this blog. I watched patron after patron order HUGE coffee drinks laden with whipped cream, tons of sugar and half and half or pure cream. Not sure how much ‘coffee’ is contained in said drinks. But I know a dessert drink when I see it. All for $7.99.

Face it, most breakfast cereals that are deemed ‘adult’ worthy taste like shit on their own. A tablespoon of sugar is needed to boost their flavor. Same nutrients as a sugary cereal. Just no cartoon or animal mascots littering the box. I used to eat normal oatmeal every day. Cook it for 5 minutes. Then let it cool. Give it some sugar and cinnamon. And enjoy. Now,I just don’t have the time on most days to make oatmeal. I still eat a bowl or two every month. But eating a tall bowl of Frosted Flakes or Corn Pops with Cream O Land milk is morning godhead

As for the rotting of the teeth beef my parents had about sugary cereal…. I DO brush my teeth directly after eating breakfast. Everyday. All the dental work I’ve had over the past few years stemmed from older crowns that need to be replaced. No new cavities or tooth decay to bitch about. If only I had gotten braces for my teeth back then- a different story for a different blog

Lastly, why do supermarkets put the sugary cereal on sale every week but keep the adult stuff at regular price? Yes,the nice price does lure me in to the store. It is always cereal and frozen dinners on sale all the time. Not the healthiest eating, but with life moving at a breakneck speed these days…. Bon Appètit!

Sugar Bear for President!
