Shimmer 118 by Don Halliwell for bWbWrestling.com
I was a fan of Shimmer in the early days. I still have 1-10 on DVD, but I have not kept up with it recently as much I would like, so I feel that this is my reinitiation into the world of Shimmer. First thing that I notice is Allision Danger on commentary, which as an old school Shimmer fan is music to my ears.
We open up with a classic veteran vs young upcoming wrestler in Kenzie Paige against Neveah. Kenzie Paige at only 18 years of age has already made a name for herself and appeared on AEW. Kenzie put up a good fight, while trash talking the whole time and had me believing that she was going to pull out the upset, but Neveah used her veteran expertise and picked up the win with the killshot.
Kenzie is sure to return to Shimmer whenever they resume shows.
Up next is the Sensation Scramble match, under Lucha rules. In this match is Elayna Black, who comes to the ring with a little coffin in hand, Queen Aminata, Jody Threat, the hometown girl Alice Crowley, the largest competitor in the match Big Mama, and Brittany Blake. The beginning of the match starts out as everyone tries to take out Big Mama. Once it settles down all of the participates get to show off their skills, Aminata with her striking and athleticism, Jody Threat and Elayna Black with their all around skills and Brittany Blake with her speed and lucha style moves. The debuting Alice Crowley pulls out the win with a great bridging O’conner roll on a distracted Jody Threat.

One of the matches that I was most looking forward to was Heather Monroe against Leyla Hirsch. Heather Monroe starts by taunting Hirsch. Monroe has the height advantage, but Hirsch has shown her toughness throughout the world. The debuting Hirsch has some moments of excellence including an incredible moonsault, but Monroe pulls off the win following an eye poke on the ropes.
SICK moonsault from @LegitLeyla! 👏🏻👏🏻 #Shimmer118 pic.twitter.com/nTTDolYoSq

One of my favorite tag teams The Bird and the Bee take on Sierra and Kayla Cassidy. First off, the gear for the Bird and the Bee looks amazing. Sierra and Kayla had some moments where they were able to dominate the more experienced team and were able to work well as a team.
However, after a very competitive match the Bird and the Bee were able to pull off the win with the double team maneuver Hurts Doughnut, a power bomb by Willow into the Sharp Stinger by Solo. Kayla and Sierra looked great as a team and I would like to see more of them. Huge shoutout to Solo Darling who sprained her hip just a few weeks ago and still went out and had a great match.
Next is a very hard-hitting match between Lacey Ryan and Davienne. I am a lot more familiar with Davienne and was very interested to see if Lacey would be able to match and/or combat Davienne’s power. Davienne dominated a lot of this match, but Lacey was able to answer everything that Davienne threw at her and pulled out the victory with the Central Perk, which was a reverse neck breaker off of the top.

The Heart of Shimmer Championship is on the line as 99 year old Thunder Kitty challenges Hyan. Hyan impressed me in a tag match the previous day at the Glory Pro show. The crowd was solidly behind the veteran, Thunder Kitty who tried to slow down the match. Thunder Kitty put up a great fight but the youth and speed of Hyan was a little too much as she was able to retain the belt with the Beauty Sleep.
In a battle of size vs speed Zoey Sky takes on Holidead. Zoey tries to use her speed to counter act the size and power advantage of Holidead, but is caught in most attempts. After taking quite a beating from Holidead, Zoey is able to pull out the victory with a double stomp off of the top.
In the Semi Main Event Allison Kay and Marti Belle, the Hex, challenge the Sea Stars for the tag team championships. The Sea Stars have recently been one of the most successful tag teams in independent wrestling, but they are going against the new tag teams of veterans.
Even though the Hex have not been a team as long as the Sea Stars they are able to use their veteran experience and shady tactics to isolate members of the Sea Stars to keep the advantage through a lot of the match. As always Ashley Vox was very impressive and was able to show off her toughness and hit a Yoshi tonic as the Sea Stars are able to use their unique athletic ability and tag team acumen to gain the victory with the flopping fish, an assisted senton off the top.
Whoah Whoah Whoah @Sienna and @MartiBelle can we all just take a motha f*ckin moment......... ❤️💪🏼 #Shimmer118 pic.twitter.com/iAI8vNKTCy

The main event has Nichole Savoy challenge Kimber Lee for the Shimmer Championship. Savoy’s look is quite different than the last time that I had seen her, as she has dropped some weight, but her striking and grappling skills are still some of the best in the business. The match starts out mostly on the mat with them exchanging submission holds, but then moves into strikes and dives as both of these women can do everything. These women have some of the best striking, submissions and suplexes in the business and we even saw some new maneuvers from Savoy. After a hard fought 20 minutes Kimber Lee pulls out the victory after applying a choke hold with her legs in the corner then hitting the Kimton bomb.
