This week’s airing of Action Clash showed us how New South rumbles. Winter Warz was the focal point of the show, and man did it deliver a good time. I’ve always thought that time seemed to fly by during battle royal matches, and such was definitely the case here. This is likely the fastest episode of Action Clash we’ve seen yet!

On Commentary: Dump Sanders and Mose

Props to Dump and Mose for steadily calling all of the action during a wild and hectic episode where the action went everywhere. I’m one who live-tweets shows while creating gifs of what’s going on, which is challenging enough. Imagine having to broadcast to the viewers every crazy thing they’re seeing going down in a battle royal. Respect to commentators who can keep that pace.

Highlights of Winter Warz 2020

I was not at this show, unfortunately, as plans changed in the last minute. In hindsight I have learned NOT to miss a New South show. You simply never know what will happen or who will turn up. Winter Warz is a prime example of this situation! New South knows how to bring the fire in a battle royal. In my opinion, the 30-man over the top style of rumble match has the capability of either being a long and drawn out process (which we’ve all seen before, especially in big league promotions) or it can be a hot and rapid-fire spectacle with fun and memorable moments. Winter Warz was that exact spectacle, starting off with two former New South title holders Cabana Man Dan and 2 Fly Ty. Right from the start of it all things got crazy!

The countdown clock seemed to come quicker and the ring filled up with the best on the New South roster. Adam Priest, Steven Michaels, Dump Sanders, Kevin Ryan, I Am Sam, Brayden Toon, Kris McInnis, and Brandon Williams are just some of the names who were out in the early to middle half of Winter Warz. As time passed we saw a mix of new talent and established names in the ring doing their best to eliminate each other from the battle. It was a real back and forth rally that could have gone anyone’s way...until Brett Ison came out to play.

Once the Pitbull entered the ring it was a test of survival for everyone left standing in the ring thus far. I was impressed with Tyler Franks stepping right up to Ison and not showing any fear to a fiercely intimidating force. As you might expect, Ison didn’t take long to clear the ring of several competitors. It wasn’t until The Mongrel came out that Ison would see his biggest challenge in Winter Warz, and when these two came eye to eye it was like watching two worlds come in contact.

Winter Warz was where current and new feuds either began or continued. We saw a very pissed off Kevin Ryan attack an incoming Shean Christopher. Between Mongrel and Brett Ison neither could overcome the other and they ended up eliminating one another, and you just know that fight won’t end until there’s a decisive winner. Then there was the return of our doorag daddy Dy-Lan, who got one of the loudest responses of the whole show when he entered Winter Warz and targeted his traitorous former partner 2 Fly Ty for elimination. Welcome back Dy-Lan!

We saw surprises, too - the hardcore ECW legend Rhino made an appearance and gored the absolute hell out of everyone, including Kenzie Page and our guy Nasty Leroy even found himself on the bad end of a gore as well. Southern indie wrestling standout Hoodfoot made his New South debut as the last entry of 2020’s Winter Warz, impressing us all with a solid showing. The night, however, belonged to ‘All Beef’ Tyler Franks. In a year where New South’s tag teams have shown what great things they can do on the singles side, Franks went into Winter Warz on his own representing the Talladega Knights and went on to be the last man standing, eliminating Adam Priest for the win.

Post-Show Thoughts

What a show! Congratulations to Tyler Franks for the huge win at Winter Warz. It was great to see Hunter Drake in the ring congratulating his tag team partner, too. The show ended with the Talladega Knights looking forward to big things in 2021, and I’m predicting they’ll make things happen in the upcoming months. I’ve stated publicly that I’d love to see the Knights work up north with Beyond Wrestling as they plan to relaunch in the next year. It’s not saying too much either to hope there are elite eyes on these young guys and more than a few other New South names on their radar as well. Don’t be surprised at who you find on AEW Dark in the near future thanks to the action we saw at Winter Warz!
