Indie Wrestling Spotlight: Max the Impaler

Indie Wrestling Spotlight: Max the Impaler by Don Halliwell

The first time that I saw Max the Impaler wrestle live was for Angelgate Women’s Wrestling in Pittsburgh.  They wrestled Scarlett in a match that immediately grabbed my attention, as these 2 powerhouses went toe to toe with each other with strikes and power moves that are rarely seen at a women’s promotion.  The other thing that stood out to me was the look and persona of Max.  From their hair to their makeup and ring attire, Max is uniquely themselves and stands out on any show.  The next time that I got to see Max was at the Ryse promotion outside of Pittsburgh.  In this match they fought another very powerful individual in O’shay Edwards.  This was another hard-hitting match where Max proved that they can trade blows with one of the toughest men in wrestling today.  Seeing Max in person is just something completely different, as you are drawn to them but also intimidated and a little scared at the same time.  Max is like nothing that you have ever seen in a wrestling ring before.  If I was to best describe their style using other wrestlers it would be a mix of Brock Lesner, Luna Vachon and Vader.

Max has one of the most intriguing personas in wrestling today.  They are from the wasteland, a post-apocalyptic area where they need to fight for everything.  Max does not say too much because they do not need to, they say everything that they need to in the ring.  Max is known for their strength and being able dish out quite the beating, but they are also able to take one and keep coming back for more.

In their short career Max has already won multiple championships and defeated stars like Nevaeh, Su Young and Matt Tremont.  Max has also shown some dominance in tournaments that they have been in.  At the Rise Reginal Rising Stars tournament, they made it to the finals of the Midwest bracket by defeating Valentina Loca and Sophie King.  They also pinned Boomer Hatfield and Masha Slamovich to advance in the first round of the Young Lions Cup.  They have proven that they can wrestle any style, wresting in death matches and UWF-I rules matches this year.  Max is constantly improving, not only in the ring but also with their look and the videos that they have created.  Their no nonsense in ring approach and unprecedented attention to detail in their overall look make Max really stand out.

Recently Max has announced that they will be forming a tag team with Heidi Howitzer, which is wonderful news for fans but terrifying news for fellow wrestlers.  Heidi and Max have similar looks and attitudes, as they both look like they survived the apocalypse by beating the ass of anyone that came near them.  They also have similar in ring styles, meaning that they will step in the ring with anyone and bring the fight straight to them.  I am very excited to see this tag team and what devastation they have in store for us.

Max’s next match is on February 28 for the AWR Women’s Championship against another very intriguing and possibly insane individual, Charlie Kruel, and Layna Lennox.  You can find Max on twitter at @_theyaremax_ and purchase their merchandise at maxtheimpaler.bigcartel.com.
