Welcome to 2021 HOSS season! The upcoming episodes of Action Clash will feature qualifying matches for New South’s biggest tournament of the year, the Heart of the Southern Sixteen. Last year’s HOSS lineup was amazing and full of talent including current WWE and IMPACT stars like Curt Stallion and Blake Christian. This year looks to be just as promising, and now is the best time to get in on all of the fun! March will be here before you know it, so stay tuned to IWTV every Tuesday night to see the latest qualifiers for this year’s Heart of the Southern Sixteen!

On Commentary: Mose and Carmen Michael

Episode 17 marked the debut of New South announcer Carmen Michael on commentary, and I guess I might be a little biased when I say he did a fantastic job at the table with Mose. Carmen’s an excellent source of positive energy at every New South show I attend and it’s great that viewers at home now get to hear his unique take on what’s happening in the ring. Props to New South for continuing to feature new faces and fresh takes on commentary!

Match 1: Adam Priest vs. Suge D (HOSS Qualifying Match)

I suppose if you’re Adam Priest and you lost in last year’s first round of the HOSS Tournament, you’d have a lot to prove the next year, right? That was the case here; Priest wants back in the tournament by any means. However, the first guy he has to go up against is Suge D, one of the prominent players in last year’s tournament and a worthy opponent for Priest at any given time. Priest and Suge both brought their best game to this match, proving they both deserve a spot on the bracket. Priest, however, reverted to cheating tactics in his desperation as the match went on. He got the victory over Suge after delivering a low blow to leverage the win, allowing Priest to unfairly qualify for the tournament.

Match 2: Dy-Lan vs. JD Rush and Jon Averson (recruited by 2 Fly Ty)

As much as I can’t stand 2 Fly Ty, he does bring a lot to my current favorite feud on the indies right now. It’s always wonderful to love our boy Dy-Lan, but I’d be untruthful if I said it’s not just as fun to boo the hell out of Ty. This particular match, however, Ty didn’t give us what we wanted to see. Instead, he called on JD Rush and Jon Averson of We Want Employment to do his dirty work. Ty didn’t plan on Dy-Lan being more than ready for the challenge, however! Dy-Lan made an example out of both Rush and Averson, proving to his former partner Ty that he’s at his best now. It won’t be long until we see Dy-Lan get his much-deserved revenge!

Match 3: The Mongrel vs. I Am Sam

Sam, just NO! This is what happens when you get too big for your britches and get all of your friends involved. This match quickly turned into a massacre once The Mongrel quickly dispatched not only Sam but the rest of his entourage. Not even Sam’s girl Babie was safe from the carnage as the Mongrel delivered a devastating chokeslam that almost sent her through the mat. Good for Sam for his newfound courage thanks to his alliance with Kris McInnis, but too bad for them it didn’t play out too well against The Mongrel.

Main Event: Shean Christopher (w/Sean Campbell) vs. Cabana Man Dan (HOSS Qualifying Match)

This episode’s main event was the second HOSS qualifying match of the week, and this time we’d see a now-solo Shean Christopher taking his chances on entering the tournament by going up against the new and improved Cabana Man Dan. This is a much different CMD from the one we saw in last year’s HOSS tournament, too. In fact, both these competitors have come such a long way from how we knew them last year that it was almost impossible to predict an outcome here. Almost, that is...until we saw Shean Christopher arrive with his new business partner Sean Campbell in tow. That’s right, Mr. Tuesday Night has a new posse and it served him well on this occasion, as Shean Christopher got the second dirty win of the night after hitting Cabana Man Dan with a chain while the referee was distracted by Campbell.

Shean Christopher is going to the HOSS 2021 tournament, but he and Campbell will have to look over their shoulders all the way there! Kevin Ryan, who made the post-match save after Christopher and Campbell attacked CMD after the bell, has no intention of letting Shean Christopher out of his sights anytime soon.

Post-Show Thoughts

From now until March is, in my opinion, the most exciting time in New South. It was the 2020 HOSS tournament that got my attention towards the promotion, and having attended that two-day event as well as going back and watching the 2019 HOSS tournament I gotta say my excitement is building very quickly! As it stands we’ve now seen two qualifying matches that ended controversially - what are we going to see unfold in the weeks ahead, and who else’s name is going to be placed on the glorious Heart of the Southern Sixteen bracket this year?
