This week’s main event was an instant classic! If you’ve enjoyed seeing Donnie Janela and Derek Neal go to war in the ring then be sure to tune in to the very last minute of Episode 18. Amazing stuff from two of the top talent in the promotion, if not in the whole southern indie scene! There are two other must-see matches as well as we move further into HOSS season; this week’s show starts out with an excellent banger and is followed up by both Kevin Ryan and 2-Fly Ty at their finest. All around greatness in this week’s Action Clash!

On commentary: Carmen Michael and Mose

Two weeks worth of good chemistry at the commentary table is always a good thing, and I’m glad Mr. Michael the Man Himself and Mose are connecting so well when calling the matches. Be sure to stick around to the end of the show, as the main event with Suge D guest commentating is a nice touch to an excellent match.

Match 1: Brandon Williams vs. Sean Campbell

I didn’t know Sean Campbell had it in him! He really did bring his best game against the Locksmith in this match. In my opinion, Brandon Williams is the best grappler in the south today. That’s a huge challenge for Sean, but he didn’t back down. Maybe it’s because he has the guidance (good or bad) of Mr. Tuesday Night Shean Christopher to back him now. Nonetheless, Brandon was able to get the best of Sean in the end and got the victory, but imagine what the weeks ahead are going to look like for Campbell if he’s got this kind of fire in him.

Match 2: Kevin Ryan vs. 2 Fly Ty

The reaction for Kevin Ryan was amazing in this match; just watch his entrance and hear how the New South family cheers him on! This transformation for the Braindead one has been something to see, and I’m proud of Kevin Ryan for coming such a long way from when I first saw him last year. He’s become a leader on the New South scene, and this is in deep contrast to 2 Fly Ty who’s become the biggest menace ever. Great match between these two with both of them stepping up their game against one another right from the get go. The crowd stayed hot for Kevin Ryan throughout the match despite 2 Fly Ty bringing strong offense. Right at the climax of battle, though, it was SO good to see my boy Dy-Lan decide to come and have a look at the match just when it was at its peak point of excitement! Somehow Ty seemed to get somewhat distracted by Dy-Lan’s appearance, and Kevin Ryan came through winning in this one. Good times!

Main Event: Derek Neal vs. Donnie Janela (30-minute Iron Man Match for New South Championship)

A good part of what made this main event so great was having Suge D accompany Mose and Carmen Michael on commentary. You could tell Suge had a fun time calling the action between the Kings Road Slayer and the Steel Dragon, and this one was one to watch over and over again if you’re into great storytelling. I was so mad I wasn’t there to see this one live, but damn it’s nice to have this one on demand to revisit anytime I want. Top-tier main event with both Derek and Donnie going to the absolute limit of their endurance. I mean that to the utmost level, too - in the end it was Derek Neal retaining the New South Championship by going right to the 30 minute mark and passing out from pain while Donnie Janela had him locked dead to rights in submission. Even though I would have loved to have seen my Donnie get his rightful championship back, this finish was the most Derek Neal finish I’ve ever seen. No complaints at all, I loved this one from bell to bell!

Post-Show Thoughts

Is this time of year just the absolute best for New South? I’d imagine so, with all of the events and matches we’ve got coming up in these next few winter weeks ahead I haven’t felt left out in the cold once. Keeping up with Action Clash and heading out to shows to get lit and support the New South family is my idea of a damn good time, and I’m cordially inviting all fans who are just getting into what we know as the Best In the South to make the trip to the new mecca in Hanceville, Alabama to see what’s good this season. Keep your eye on these upcoming episodes and HOSS qualifying matches because you’re likely to see some indie wrestling match of the year early candidates!
