Indie Wrestling Spotlight: Abby Jane!!

Interview conducted by Don Halliwell

Abby Jane may be very new on the wrestling scene, but just about every time that she has a match, I see people talking about how much they like her moves, her fight, and her overall attitude.  She has quickly become a fan favorite on the Camp Leapfrog shows and seems to be improving with every match.  She has competed in the Christmas Trios, and the Cibernetico at Camp Leapfrog.   She had a very physical match against Devantes, which she was very impressive but came out on the losing end.  She was able to extract some revenge when she teamed with Markus Skyler and The Whisper to defeat Devantes, Ethan Wilde and Tim Hughes at the Worldwide Dojo show.  Abby always seems to have a smile on her face, but whenever that bell rings she is not to be taken lightly.

Abby was kind enough to answer a few questions about her career so far, how she got here and who she would like to face in the future.

You are very athletic in your matches.  Do you have any kind of athletic background?  Did you play any sports when you were younger?

I sure did! I’ve done Kung Fu off and on through my preteen and teen years. I also played field hockey when I was younger, a little bit of softball, and of course the average backyard roughhousing with my siblings when we’d play basketball, rugby, and wrestle around on our trampoline! I’ve also done dance since I was young and musical theatre throughout high school. All that work with cardio and footwork prepared me for wrestling more than I could’ve realized at the time!

So far in your career you have been mostly in mixed gender matches.  Is this something that you would like to continue to do or would you like to have more matches with females?

Well, I have wrestled mostly men so far, but I don’t really consider myself an intergender wrestler--I just consider myself a wrestler! Sure, it’d be amazing to wrestle more women, since there’s many amazing performers on the scene right now, but there’s also so many others who aren’t women that I can’t wait to wrestle some day! I don’t limit myself by the gender I am when thinking of dream matches I’d love to have, I see anyone as fair game when it comes to who I’d love to have fun in the ring with!

You are still pretty early in your career.  Can you tell us who has helped you the most so far, or who is continuing to help you get better?

There are so many people who’ve helped me since I started this wrestling journey and they’re all just incredible! Kris Levin who has been so supportive in giving me advice all the time, helping me get matches and giving me this platform I have now on Camp Leapfrog. But all my trainers I’ve had from the start like Travis Huckabee, Sonny Defarge, and A Very Good Professional Wrestler have been so supportive in giving me advice and literally training me to get better. I can’t thank World Famous CB and Sumie Sakai enough for giving me a new home in the Worldwide Dojo when I needed somewhere to go. And of course I appreciate all the other people I’ve trained with and who always give me incredible advice like Solo Darling and Orange Cassidy! There’s no way I would have even made it to having my first match without the help of all my friends!

There are a lot of incredibly talented young women in wrestling right now, like Billie Starkz and Alice Crowley.  Are these some people that you would like to invite to camp or maybe take a road trip to try to challenge yourself against or is there anyone else out there that you think you would have good chemistry with?

Of course! Whether they wanna come to camp or whether they want me to bring the wrestling to them, I’m ready either way as they’re both so cool! Some other people that stick out to me that I’d love to wrestle are Tony Deppen and Trish Adora, who of course are doing something awesome with the Iron Match, and they’re both amazing and I’d love to test myself against them! I’d also love to get in the ring some day with my fellow camper and friend Leroy Green and see what games we could play together!

You remind me of a young Kylie Rae, just the constant positive demeaner and always smiling.  It also seems as if when you are in a match everyone is talking about you, because you constantly amaze us and draw people to you.  Is there anything that you attribute the fact that you are one of the breakout stars of Camp Leapfrog?

That means so much to me! I can’t really give a guess as to how all this happened for me, or how so much happened so quickly. It’s been like a whirlwind since I was chosen for my Camp Leapfrog Christmas Trios team! I want so many thanks to go to all the people I’ve wrestled so far. They’re all super talented and I feel like I can do anything any time I’m in the ring with them, even if some of them can be pretty mean to me...

There are a lot of people causing trouble at Camp Leapfrog.  I know you are typically the nice one, but is there one camper that you find the most annoying?

Devantes for sure. He always butts heads with me, he gave me 3 TKOs, AND he snores at camp! But he did buy my new merch, so that’s a win!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.  Is there anything else that you would like us to know about you, other than the fact that you have some amazing shirts out right now?

I love the shirts so much and I’m glad you think they’re amazing too! It’s inspired by Super Mario Sunshine because I love video games, especially ones like Mario and Legend of Zelda, and chill games like Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley!
