With 23 episodes in and a lot more to go in a year that’s just starting out on point, Action Clash has established itself as one of IWTV’s must-see weekly shows. This is pretty huge as we start to see more promotions return to the independent wrestling scene (thankfully!) and a wider variety of viewing choices are made available. In the meantime, Tuesday nights are for New South.

On Commentary: Carmen Michael and Mose

The new voices of the southern scene were on hand again this week to call the action! Since I use this section of the review each week to expound upon how good the commentary is, I’ll use it this week to ask other promotions around the south to use these two at the mic table more often. We know how good Mose has been from day one, but Carmen Michael has advanced nicely since becoming a weekly commentator. Hoping people are listening closely!

Match 1: Adam Priest vs. Daniel Perez (w/Rodney Rockchild)

Hot and spicy opener this week! Priest and Perez went strong and I’m pretty pleased with the performance of the Hot Tamale. Priest is making it a point that he can be successful in New South with or without the help of the Cortège (as evidenced by the appearance of Steven Michaels at ringside mid-match for ‘moral’ support), and so Priest brought his big match energy to this one. Perez was up for the challenge, but Priest got the win - on his own - in the end after he landed a powerful frog splash onto Perez for the three count.

Match 2: Cabana Man Dan vs. Duncan Mitchell

The best way I can describe this match is ‘trial by fire’. It’s fitting of what we see here between the veteran and the new blood. I’ve got high expectations of Duncan Mitchell, and to see him go one on one with CMD is a thrill. What may surprise most here is how well Duncan hangs in there against New South’s legend, especially now that we’re seeing the much more aggressive Castaway side of Dan. Great match that ended with CMD getting the win, but props to Duncan for getting one of the most solid opponents around to learn from.

Match 3: Jaden Newman vs. Steven Michaels

Dammit, Steven was out to inflict some pain in this match. We know and love how Jaden Newman can fly around the ring, but as long as the Alpha Wolf could keep Ichiban Number One grounded he would be in control. The action went back and forth a few times here with Michaels looking devastating at points, turning the momentum back in his favor by sending Newman crashing to the mat. Don’t let me gas Steven up too much, though - just as Jaden was regaining control in the match he was subject to a most unfair low-blow at the hands of his opponent, allowing Steven Michaels (damn it) to get the victory. Anything for the win, right?

Main Event: ‘The Lost’ Wasted Generation  (Brayden Toon and Sean Campbell) vs Double Down (Suge D and Donnie Janela)

Double Down is back again, hot damn it! We loved seeing them in their New South debut, and in Episode 23’s main event they’ve got a much bigger challenge by going up against Brayden Toon and Sean Campbell. The team that I like to refer as ‘The Lost’ Wasted Generation has made strides over the past few weeks and they’re looking to walk right over anyone they see as being in their way. Double Down had no problem, however, getting right in their faces. Awesome tag match to end this week’s show; Donnie and Suge just seem to entertain by instinct and Campbell/Toon have found their niche as a team working in tandem. If you like classic tag match style seasoned with some of the new, you’ll surely want to check out this main event. Donnie and Campbell nearly steal the match away at one moment with a sick Spanish Fly off of the ropes that needs to be seen. Very satisfying end to this week’s Action Clash with Double Down getting the victory to close things out.

Post-Show Thoughts

If you’ve been following the latest New South happenings, you know that this year’s HOSS lineup has stacked itself to something huge. Something else that’s great about HOSS? We’ll all be able to see it live as it happens on IWTV! That’s both nights - Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th - and this year promises to be something unforgettable. Between now and next week what’s gonna happen that leads us into New South’s biggest event of the year?
