March is here and it’s HOSS week! This Friday and Saturday night will be absolutely on fire in Alabama and on IWTV; both nights of this year’s tournament are loaded with talent and will be streamed live in its entirety. New South has implemented something big with the Heart of the Southern Sixteen, and every name on the indie scene knows now that Hanceville is the place to be that first weekend of March. Episode 25 of Action Clash does a great job of serving as the ‘go-home’ show before this weekend’s events; this one gets wild at the end and can’t be missed!

On Commentary: Mose and Carmen Michael

It’s pretty clear that New South’s resident commentary team is more than ready to handle calling the action at HOSS. I’m hoping that Mose and Carmen will take on the duties for both Friday and Saturday; they’ve come a long way in establishing the chemistry they have each week on Action Clash. Even though I wouldn’t be opposed to guest commentary for one or two matches, I’m very much looking forward to seeing how well the current voices of New South have improved after this weekend.

Match 1: Wasted Generation (Shean Christopher, Sean Campbell and Brayden Toon) vs. Jaden Newman, Cabana Man Dan and Kevin Ryan

Be careful what you ask for - or should I say, be careful how you ask for it! At the beginning of this week’s episode, Wasted Generation did a pretty bold thing by approaching General Manager Dump Sanders and making their own demands. Dump had plans of his own; he declared the first match of the show would be a huge six man tag, and their opponents could be considered New South’s superteam. Awesome way to kick off the show with CMD, Newman, and Braindead Kevin Ryan getting the win after a battle that went back and forth. I’m enjoying the way Toon and Campbell work together alongside Shean; there’s definitely an appeal to this dark side.

Match 2: Kung Fu Donnie Janela vs. Kenzie Paige

The only way that the opening six-man tag could be properly followed up is with this banger. We’ve seen Donnie Janela go to war with Dillon McQueen and the outcome was highly influenced by McQueen’s co-champion tag team partner Kenzie Paige. This week we got to see Donnie take on the other half of the reigning tag champs, and damn was it a good one. Over the past year I’ve taken notice of how much of a legit badass Kenzie Paige is, and she is on full savage display in this match against the Steel Dragon. Donnie, however, is tougher than most I’ve seen. He gave McQueen a solid run for the money last week and he brought that same energy to this match with Kenzie, who also brought her Petty in Pink squad for backup. It was once again interference in the end, however, that cost Donnie what would have been a sure victory. Kenzie and Dillon weren’t having it, however, and they stole yet another victory (this time in Kenzie's favor).

Match 3: Derek Neal vs. Brandon Williams (Open Challenge)

If you decide to hold an open challenge for opponents in New South you’d better be as prepared as Derek Neal is, because the opposition on the roster is exceptional. Case in point? The Locksmith Brandon Williams, arguably the most talented pure wrestler on the New South roster. Brandon accepted this challenge with Humungold on his mind, too, because he did not come to play around or show off. This was a real old-school wrestling match; one of the great rare ones you see these days. Watch this one! There’s one moment you’ll be absolutely convinced the title is about to change. That’s how much fire Brandon brought to this match. Excellent wrestling going on from start to finish with Derek Neal retaining the championship in the end. Definitely a brave and bold move opening a challenge to someone as hungry for gold as the Locksmith.

Main Event: Nasty Leroy vs. Adam Priest (Philadelphia Street Fight)

Oh, boy, get ready...this main event isn’t like anything you’ve seen in New South lately, let me assure you of that. Leroy showed out in this outing with Adam Priest! In the beginning it was almost shocking to see That Nasty Man bust out some smooth looking wrestling holds against Priest, but one has to remember that Leroy is no stranger to the ring. He’s had training with the Nightmare Family and he’ll be happy to show it to anyone. Priest, however, didn’t seem to care much about a Philly street fight; the moment when he took control it was a straight up Alabama ass beating. This match was notable on a few levels; Priest is still a representative of the Cortege and had Derek Neal at ringside for support here. It turned out to be more of a hindrance, however, as Leroy was able to outsmart the both of them and utilize all of the Philly street weapons (including a traffic cone!) in his favor to get the victory.

Post-Show Thoughts

This was a fun show leading us into what’s sure to be an exciting weekend. The HOSS tournament lineup is impressive enough just looking at the first night alone. In addition to the matches on the bracket, New South has more in store for us with an IWTV title defense as reigning champ Warhorse will take on the Season 1 winner of IWTV’s The Masked Wrestler, the still-unrevealed individual known only as Genkai. Will this weekend be the one we find out both the 2021 HOSS winner and who the winning Masked Wrestler really is? There’s only one way and two nights to find out; be there this Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm central (Bama!) time on IWTV.live when New South presents the HOSS 2021 Tournament!
