With the confirmation that Terry Silvers will join our band of karate crazed teens and the adults that “supervise” them, what better time than now to look at the ten best Cobra Kai characters through the first three seasons.
10. Daniel LaRussa
I know … it was weird for me to place Danny in the ten spot when, if it weren’t for his character, there’d be no “Karate Kid,” nor “Cobra Kai,” franchise — yet, here we are. While his presence is needed, to me, he’s never been the most important character in the series other than his travels back to Okinawa.
He comes off uncaring and self centered at times — and i’m sure that’s on purpose, and for that, he’s 10 for me.
9. Moon
The female, non competitive, non confrontational version of Miguel. She was also born with the silver spoon — who knows, maybe Moon would be throwing fists and feet had she struggled in life.
Regardless, her heart seems pure.
8. Tory
Main reason?
The mystery that surrounds Tory - who the fuck is she? She's clearly not just some random kid that turned up at the Cobra Kai dojo, there is a backstory waiting to happen. Is she Danny's kid after a night at the bar with the mechanics? Is she somehow Johnny's younger sister from the Dad he never had?
There's something, and it's intriguing as fuck.
7. Raymond “Stingray”
No one who has watched season two of Cobra Kai will ever forget the antics of Stingray. From the awkward first meeting with Sensei Lawrence in that generic Home Depot to the taped up 40's at a teenage party gone wrong, Stingray lives in all our hearts, even if ... he probably shouldn't.
6. Miguel
Miggy is the good, the light, in the show. Even when the stacks are turned against him — he finds a way to remain confident and even protective of his sensei. I think he's very much like Daniel, but not as problematic or obsessed with being "popular,".
LaRussa brought a lot of his "bullying" on, trying to fit in; while Miguel doesn't seem to want to fit in as much as he just want's to be happy.
5. Ali Mills
The story of Daniel & Ali is very much a retelling of Romeo & Juliet on a VHS tape - with Danny being born literally on the wrong side of the tracks and Allie living the highlife. Miyagi is Montague, a nobleman of Reseda, California .... wait, I'm probably way to high to finish this.
But look at the scenes, the characters. You know I'm fucking right.
4. Mr. Miyagi
While he is no longer with us, physically, you can still feel his presence within the Cobra Kai universe. Some of the lightest, nicest moments are Daniel remembering his best friend. In this universe he's a reminder that nothing lasts forever other than what we learn from each other.
3. Chozen
I really wanted to put Chozen at the number one spot - and I reserve the fucking right to do it later on down the road If i so Chozen (get it?) But seriously, of all the roles in the first three seasons, Chozen, played by Yuji Okumoto, has the most diverse character in the less than 30 minutes he's on the screen.
From silent, brooding victim of the past to teacher in the dojo, with one of the most EPIC scenes in Cobra Kai's history, a beautiful recall to the past, I hope dearly we get more Chozen in the future.
2. John Kreese
Honestly, the story of Cobra Kai is more Lawrence chasing his demons - and his demons aren't really Danny. They are John Kreese - the man he looked at as a Dad when his Dad wasn't around and his step Dad was just a dick.
Kreese is the ultimate bad guy - he's perfectly fine being the good guy as long as it's hiding the dark; you see it several times within season two and three.
Cobra Kai would be 75% less fun without John Kreese.

1. Johnny Lawrence
So we're at No.1 and it's predictably Johnny.
Unpredictably, however, is that the character of Johnny Lawrence is so quietly developed that you don't realize it's connected to almost every person you've ever met: the drunk, the step kid, the prep, the macho fuck, the broken, it literally could go on.
Literally, it's the most diverse character we've ever watched grow upon our screen.
