Serena Deeb dropped the women's title yesterday at "When Our Shadows Fall," the latest PPV of Billy Corrigan's National Wrestling Alliance.
Deeb, whose reign as champion was lackluster at best due to an injury, dropped the belt to Kamille in a fourteen minute match that may have been Kamille's second best match of her career.
The long term goal of putting the title on Kamille came to fruition, but fans seem to have already decided where they want Kamille to show up next.
All Elite Wrestling.
Which is baffling to me. But honestly, it's both the NWA and AEW's fault. They've created a confusion that fans can't seem to understand. Because Deeb, who is actually an AEW talent, held the NWA title for 200+ days some fans seem to believe that automatically invites you into AEW.
It doesn't help that your best female talent, Thunder Rosa, is more synonymous with AEW than she is the NWA. I think Corrigan is at least somewhat cognizant of the situation, bringing both Kylie Rae and Lady Frost to freshen up the women's scene.
With Kylie's past, no fault of her own, there has to be a little hesitance to push her to hard out the gate - and if not, kudos to Corrigan for seeing past Rae's issues because she is a top tier talent who makes any roster exponentially better.
The intriguing talent is Frost, though. Active for just three years according to cagematch.net, Frost has slowly but consistently impressed fans throughout the US with husband and tag team partner Victor Benjamin, also known as Pretty Proper. It should also be noted that Frost will soon debut with Impact Wrestling and has had a cup of coffee with AEW as well.
Another name I've heard rumored to be on her way to the NWA is Chelsea Green, who would be a dynamic talent to add, as well.
With COVID-19 cases dwindling, vaccinations happening and restrictions loosening it's time for the NWA to begin focusing on their own talent on their own shows - while the "Forbidden Door," works for established companies like Impact, AAA, NJPW and AEW, the "new" NWA needs to establish who they are before share talent around the world to other shows.
Or their undoing will be without a doubt, the lack of an identity.
