NFL - "Winter Brats," a bWb Kitchen recipe.

The “Winter Brat” is the best way to make brats.

It’s football season!!!!! Which means it is tailgating time and I’m here to help you dominate your tailgating with this staple. When I was a FIB** in Wisconsin I was introduced to this amazingness.

Many drunken nights and my friends Nick and Rob showed me the best way to make brats. OK first things first you will need the following:

Bratwurst - Get Johnsonville beer brats

Beer - I mean you must have beer it’s tailgating and brats!

A foil pan that you can pour 3-4 beers in and tuck away in a corner on your grill

Butter, Garlic, Lawry’s and onions

Start the grill up

Drink a beer or 3. Here’s the trick you are going to cut the skins off of the brats. The sharper the knife the better because you just want to take the skins off not cut the brat in half. So cut the skin straight up the brat and pull the skins off. THEY DO NOT FALL APART don’t believe the propaganda.

Now put those on the grill. Brown those bad boys, don’t worry if you get too distracted and they burn it’s just added flavor. If you partake in 420 probably a good time for it. Now on to the next step.

Cut the onions I like to have mine in big rings. You don’t need to chop them. Grab your foil pan and put about ¼ stick of butter, spoonful of fresh garlic, ½ of the white onion and some Lawry’s I don’t measure because we are tailgating just put the damn salt in there.

Crack a beer and pour in enough to leave yourself a drink. I use about 3-4 beers, make sure you take a drink of each beer. I mean it’s beer and the special ingredient to this masterpiece is that you got a buzz goin.

You should now have a beer bath for those tasty brats to soak in. Leave them in the beer bath on the grill for as long as you can. I usually leave them in for at least an hour. This should be the first thing you put together as you cook your other stuff. Let them boil as long as you can. Definitely want to make sure they are fully cooked. No pink for them.

To truly enjoy these I highly recommend using Jack Daniels Mustard. You can use the bath as an au jus if you wish.

As far as what beer to use that is totally up to you. Don’t use an IPA because I have no idea how that will taste. (Or, if you do use an IP, let us know what you use, maybe we'll try it in the bWb test kitchen).

Use a real beer. The brats will have that beer flavor so if you drink Bud Light use Bud Light if you drink Miller Lite use Miller Lite . PBR will do the job as well as Coors.

Best enjoyed not sober and watching football
