Should’ve Known Better
Krüde often knows when he is up against a force too
great to conquer. So I cut my losses and run. No need to fight the monster.
Just avoid the beast. And live to fuck another chick on another day
Case in point: spending a recent afternoon at Met Life Stadium (the
beast) for a NFL football game.
Hmmm…. Where do I start? I guess I’ll drift back to the
early 1980s to recall my father’s decision to NOT continue his New York Jets
season tickets when the Jets moved to New Jersey to play in Giants
Stadium. He would say that no football game should be played on Astroturf
in the middle of a swamp (The Meadowlands). Then it was the fact that
the Jets and New York Giants would share a home. A boring, oval shaped facility
to house football, tractor pulls, NASL soccer and a few rock concerts. I didn’t
blame him for having that opinion. Facts are facts.
Now in 2021, I find myself going to the Meadowlands Stadium
(I hate corporate sponsored naming rights) on two different occasions. First
was seeing a Guns N’ Roses show there during the summer. And a Las
Vegas Raiders vs New York Giants game during the Fall. GNR show was
good- for a stadium performance. Show wasn’t sold out, so parking was rather
easy. Rock shows at stadiums that have ticket prices over $125 a seat are
usually not sold out. Nobody wants to pay top dollar to sit 400 feet from a
stage. Then we get to the football game…..
NFL events in the Meadowlands are overpriced, overcrowded shit
shows. Parking for Giants games is ALL pre paid pass only. Meaning, no cash. And if you don’t
have preferred parking near the stadium (for top level Personal Seat License shills),
you will park no less than ¾ mile away. At least a 10 minute walk towards the
entry gates. At $50 a parking space. A fucking rip off. Speaking of rip offs ….
Buy the ticket Take the ride. Sounds like a solid
analogy. Except when going to Met Life Stadium. All $1.8 Billion of it.
All that $ spent and they couldn’t put a retractable roof on? Or create
sensible parking lots? Or even competent workers to frisk everybody on their
way in. The stadium also has a no cash policy. Masks are not required here. Neither is cash
money. WTF! The food is trash. Beer
choices bad. Lucky I had good seats. Otherwise I would bitch about grossly overpriced
tickets (which they mostly are).
Way too many stadium wide salutes to military members. Do
people forget that they are attending a football game officially listed as an ‘entertainment
entity’ with the USA? Why not salute a local single mom who managed to put her
two children through college without any help? The NFL and especially the NY
Giants should not be leaning on military service as a gratuitous sympathy
crutch to wave in front of football fans. IT’S A FUCKING FOOTBALL GAME. Not an
excuse to show blind patriotism during every break in the action. Roger Goodell
used to charge big $ for military people to come onto the field for a photo op.
Probably still does.
Safe to say I will never set foot in Met Life Stadium again.
Not a fun experience at all. No amount of booze or drugs makes going there any
better. Tailgaters are just people who want to have a BBQ during fall and
winter months. Get real folks. NFL is bilking you. Players are paid way too much.
Team owners just want to make $$$. When the money generated for the NFL comes
off the backs of the 99% in the USA, best to do some real checks and balances
when supporting the former ‘non profit’ organization.
Here is the best part of being at this stadium. This
security dude transcended the NJ Sports Authority losing stigma. Mahalo
Use cash. Always
