WWE SmackDown! The One Where Dolph Ziggler Pisses Off The Internet

WWE SmackDown Report
by Kyle Combs

It’s Valentine’s Day and that means one thing, the only thing matters, that’s the big date. Otis and Mandy Rose! We will get to that shortly. One cool note, the NWO is being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame! Let’s get to the review.

Smackdown started with a Moment of Bliss, sorry Miz, this is the must watch show on WWE. Alexa and Nikki came out and greeted their guest Carmella. It was refreshing to start Smackdown with someone other than Corbin and his minions or Roman Reigns. Alexa showed Carmella some of her old photos from Instagram and how close they used to be, Carmella said that what changed Bayley was Sasha Banks. Bayley interrupted the segment and things heated up. Carmella had enough and challenged Bayley right then and there, right off the rip.

Bayley vs Carmella for the Smackdown Women’s Championship

Bayely took control early but that was short lived, Carmella landed a nice reversal and gained control, targeting Bayley’s arm. Bayley got a rope break and was quickly back in control. Their past means nothing to her and she was caught with a dropkick but Carmella took her eyes off the champ and ate a dropkick. Carmella kicked out of two quick pin attempts but Bayley remained in control.

Bayley tried to go high, Carmella got out of the way and delivered a nice kick to the face which shifted the momentum and Carmella nearly got the pinfall. Carmella went high, landed a cross body lateral press and again another dramatic two count. They end up outside the ring, which always favors the champ and Carmella’s face was introduced to the announce table by the champ. Mella with a solid reverse took control again, the drama was heightened with Carmella’s two consecutive arm bars.

Bayley was on skates which gave Mella time to get an offense going. Bayley spent a solid minute getting whooped by Carmella’s improved offense, landed a sick Bayley to belly suplex and just nearly got a two count. Carmella took a few hits but was able to keep attacking and she got the nearest fall up to this point of the match. Carmella’s kicks were an equalizer and she threw a lot of them. Bayley, showing her ring IQ and why she’s the champ escaped out of the ring, giving her the chance to get her head back in the game.

Mella landed a submission in the middle of the ring but Bayley escaped, attempted another pinfall but was quickly kicked out of by Mella. Bayley said, hell with that and went for another pinfall, using the ropes for leverage and got the three count. This was a great match, Carmella really brought it and Bayley did a great job showing why she’s the champion, these two need to compete again, well done.

After the match, Bayley attacked Carmella after the match and was interrupted by Naomi, this gave Carmella the chance to attack Bayley as she was distracted by Naomi and the two team up on the champ. I want to give an honorable mention to Naomi’s hairdo on this episode, incredible.

A video package showing the King, Baron Corbin losing his mind on an unsuspecting member of the production crew and pouring a beverage on a “fan” that was hilarious! Not going to lie, but he has been barred from this episode.

Kayla Braxton joined Bayley backstage for a promo, Bayley was mad as hell saying the next time she defends will be at Super Showdown.

Lacey delivered a heartfelt promo from the WWE YoutTube channel, and this episode showed a trailer, go check it out and she will be on Smackdown next week.

Backstage promo with the man, Otis! He looked amazing in this promo, Tucker showed up and these two just absolutely light it up in the ring and in promos. Otis had to ask if he actually had a chance with Mandy, Tucker believes in his boy, as he should, more on “the date” later.

Sheamus vs. Shorty G and Apollo Crews in a handicap match

Before the bell rang, G and Crews assaulted Sheamus in the corner, ref called for the bell and Shorty G kept up the attack. Apollo tagged himself in and landed a drop kick. Crews and G had a strategy, quick tags, and an unrelenting offense. Sheamus caught on quick and took the chance to warm G’s face with his forearm. Sheamus pounded Shorty G’s chest causing him to essentially melt on the ring apron.

Shorty G got back in control and attempted an ankle lock, Sheamus kicked out and sent him across the ring but luckily for him Apollo was able to tag himself in. After Apollo came in Shorty G tagged himself back in and he took the opportunity to land a missile drop kick but Apollo tagged himself back in.

Sheamus brogue kicked Shorty G into the shadow realm on the ring apron allowing himself to isolate Crews who also received a brogue kick and this one ended. A typical Sheamus match, the quick tags and fun offense by Apollo and Shorty G were fun, Sheamus showed some good technical skill, he’s no longer “just a fighter”, good match which the crowd was incredibly into!

Kayla Braxton found Carmella backstage and she believes she deserves a rematch. Going off her match tonight, I tend to agree.

The camera cuts to the restaurant and Mandy Rose showed up and was sat at the table for two, Otis nowhere to be found. Just checking in, stay tuned!

A video package showing Goldberg and The Fiend. The video package mostly focused on the legend of Goldberg, pretty cool video package.

The one and only Hulkster joined via satellite to talk about the NWO being inducted into the WWE hall of fame. Hulk Hogan knows all about Goldberg, he also felt the vibes coming from The Fiend BROTHER! Hogan warned The Fiend, and cut to the Firefly Funhouse.

Bray Wyatt came out to the NWO theme song, ripped his shirt and posed like the man himself, Hulk Hogan. The segment ended with Bray Wyatt holding up a picture of Hogan, great segment. Hulk looked great and did a great job, he didn’t “brother” himself into confusion like he usually does.

Sami Zayn and Cesaro put on a protest concert in the middle of the ring. Sami really had a ukulele with Cesaro manning the cowbell. Right before Sami was about to slay on that tiny axe, Elias walked out with his signature guitar riff and the crowd was so happy to hear that. What does WWE stand for? Yeah, we all know the answer to that. Sami was highly upset about his protest concert being interrupted. Elias took his basic right and staged a counter protest. The chant “Walk With Elias” took over the arena, interrupting Sami and Cesaro’s shed session.

The crowd wanted more cowbell, Sami made a point to have LESS cowbell, if you haven’t seen the SNL skit more cowbell, you need to. The crowd wanted more cowbell, before Cesaro proceeded to rock out on that cowbell, he tossed it aside to the angst of the crowd. Sami told the fans if they didn’t shut their mouths, the concert was over and the crowd was all over it. The concert turned into Sami and Cesaro ganging up on Elias but that was quickly interrupted by Braun Strowman. One of Sami’s security tried to attach Braun, that was a horrible idea on his part. RIP that guy as he was thrown out of the ring literally like a piece of trash, dude got airborne at the hands of Elias and Braun. Overall, this was a great segment, it had humor and enough seriousness to make it an all around solid segment.

Kayla met up with Naomi in the back. The glow is real! Bayley has never beat Naomi.

Bayley will defend the women’s championship at Super Showdown, Naomi and Carmella will fight for the number one contender next week!

The Date

A great video package lead us into this unbelievable moment. Otis showed up, finally, asking the man at the door if he had seen a beautiful peach. Otis, probably the most awkward man on Earth was having a hard time walking in. Mandy had a hand on his shoulder and it was Dolph Ziggler! Dolph sat down at her table, Otis walked in just in time to see that. The man is heartbroken! It’s worth noting, Mandy seemed surprised at him showing up. To say that I am highly upset is an understatement. Otis needs a hug.

The Miz and John Morrison vs. Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan

Awesome moment when Daniel’s music popped. Before the match began, King Corbin made his presence known, he bought a ticket as he was barred from competing so nothing to see here, move along.

Reigns and Morrison started the match. Roman tagged in the 5x world champ and the offense kept up. Bryan made full use of his unique offensive moveset, knocking The Miz out of the ring, attacking Morrison fast, and suicide diving into The Miz outside and continuing to lay into Morrison, who kicked out of a two count shortly after.

Morrison finally got control with a smooth reversal in his corner, Roman came over to handle The Miz after he attacked Bryan on the outside, Roman got distracted by King Corbin and was attacked by The Miz. Morrison landed a really cool over the top rope twist, splashing into both Roman and Bryan. The Miz and Morrison, in control at this point.

King Corbin watched the match closely as the chaos ended up back in the ring. The Miz, now legal continues to use Bryan as the whipping post Morrison was using. Bryan reversed a superplex attempt but went down. Morrison tagged himself back in as Miz was upside down, hung up on the top rope. Morrison planted Bryan in the middle of the ring then followed up with a solid kick to the face and a dramatic two count. Bryan and Roman are still alive but far from in control.

Morrison missed his signature top rope craziness, both he and Bryan were in agony, Morrison tagged in The Miz first but Bryan was able to get Roman in there. Roman usied his strength, punches and forearms to get back in the driver’s seat. Morrison got himself tagged back in, Roman wasn’t aware and had his face introduced to the bottom of Morrison’s boot, the closest two count of the match!

Morrison spent copious amounts of time in the corner, standing above Roman which gave Roman a chance to strike and set up a spear. Morrison reversed with another boot to the face, The Miz tagged himself back in, landed a picture perfect skull crushing finale, but Bryan came in right before the ref smacked the mat for three. Roman and Miz whiffed a superman punch in the middle of the ring, but they still sold it. Roman was able to land a spear and get the three count. This was a strange main event, it started off strong but by the midpoint it seemed like none of the wrestlers were really in control and just trying to wing it, the weakest match of the night.

King Corbin violated his barring and hit Roman with his scepter, no doubt he will be fined even heavier in the coming weeks! The king is out of control and must be stopped and the only way to do that is ANOTHER match with Roman Reigns!

Overall this episode of Smackdown was fun, all of the matches were very tight except the main event seemed phoned in.
