Are you ready for Nitro? No, not the return of WCW Monday Nitro, but the latest offering from Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser Nitro Reserve Gold!
It seems like almost every year Budweiser will come out with a new beer gimmick to try to capitalize on the market. They have done it in the past with the Budweiser 1933 Repeal Reserve Amber Lager, the Budweiser Freedom Reserve Red Lager, and also the Budweiser Reserve Jim Beam Copper Lager. It's become somewhat of a tradition at bumwinebob.com to feature each of these new beverages (only with the exception of the Jim Beam Copper Lager, not because of it's taste, but because of how drunk I got on it the first and only time I had it and haven't drank it since) so when it was announced that a new Budweiser variety was hitting shelves I decided to pick some up and give it a try.
The main gimmick with the Budweiser Nitro Reserve Gold is how you are instructed to drink it. Flip the beer can three times, pour the liquid straight into the middle of the beer glass, wait for the bubble to subside, and then enjoy.
The nitro beer is a unique little novelty, but I don't think it really adds much to the flavor. Budweiser Nitro Gold is brewed with toasted caramel malt and infused with nitro for a silky-smooth finish. Coming in at 5% abv. it will give you the same buzz as a classic Budweiser. It's a decent tasting beer and goes down smooth, but nothing off the wall to go back for again.
