The Masked Wrestler - An IWTV Original Series - Episode One Recap

The Masked Wrestler is an 8-man tournament where the winner gets to challenge for the IWTV championship.  We do not know the identity of the wrestlers unless they lose, and they are forced to unmask.  IWTV has given us some innovative programing like Camp Leapfrog and Uncanny Attraction’s all cinematic show, so I was looking forward to this show.

We start off with the introduction of our judges, who will see if they can guess the identity of the loser of the match.  They are Billy Dixon, Kris Statlander and Brickster.  The announcers are Dylan Hales and Denver Colorado, referee Kris Levin and the host of the show is Lenny Leonard.

We get a brief introduction to the wrestlers, with their voices muffled of course.  They are given pretty generic names; Barf is in green and Gnekai is in pink.  They give some facts about themselves and do 2 truths and a lie.  It appears that the biggest clues are that Barf is an 11-year vet and the Gnekai may have some sort of martial arts and/or MMA background.

They begin the match starting off with a lot of technical wresting and submission attempts.    Then the match speeds up with Gnekai showing off some lucha moves and ending with them both doing kip ups.  I feel that this is very fun to watch if you are familiar with a lot of independent wrestlers as you are constantly guessing who it could be with each move.  There is a cross body from Barf after some questionable tactics.  After a competitive match Gnekai pulls off the victory with what looks to be a brainbuster variation.

After the match, the judges get to guess who the man under the Barf mask is.  I was not able to come up with a good guess, the best clues that I got was an 11-year vet, questionable morals and he liked to use the cravat a lot, so Chris Hero, Tony Deppen?  Let’s see.  Kris Statlander is first up and guesses Simon Cowell, because he is mean, and is unfortunately incorrect.  Billy Dixon guesses Joey Janela and Brickster guesses Jaden Newman.  Both are also incorrect.

Barf unmasks to be Logan Easton Laroux.  Logan states that he lost because he had to hide his face and that he changed his style so that no one would know who he is.  He also said that he knows who Gnekai  is  and he is still coming for the IWTV championship.

This was a very fun concept and had me  guessing who the wrestlers could be the whole time.  But who is Gnekai?  Could it be Lee Moriarty, Tom Lawler, maybe Donny Janela?  I am really bad at guessing so it will probably be none of these people, but it is fun to guess.

I really enjoyed the show and am excited to see who is on next week.
