Are we that close to 20 episodes of Action Clash? The months have flown by and each week New South has consistently brought us a most entertaining hour of independent wrestling on television that goes by way too fast. Each show seems to be gaining intensity the closer we get to the 2021 Heart of the Southern Sixteen Tournament, now just a mere month away. Prior to Episode 19 there were two confirmed competitors in this year’s HOSS lineup; this main event between Nolan Edward and The Mongrel ends in such a wild way that you won’t want to miss the outcome. Be sure to catch the replay and all other episodes on IWTV!

On commentary: Carmen Michael and Mose

Compliments must be paid to New South for bringing consistently strong commentary to each show whether it’s Mose on his own or if he’s teamed up with roster talent or one of the many solid talkers of the New South crew, such as Brickster or Dump or Carmen Michael. No episode ever has a dull feel to it thanks in part to the people calling the match, and Episode 19 is no exception. Pay close attention to the excitement you’ll hear on the mic particularly during this week’s main event!

Match 1: Kevin Ryan and Cabana Man Dan vs. Shean Christopher and Sean Campbell

It was almost surreal to see Kevin Ryan on the opposite side of the ring tagging against his former partner Shean Christopher, but Sean Campbell brought reality crashing down on anyone who thought any hope was left for the former Wasted Generation having their old spark. Shean and Sean have formed their own new empire and it’s working pretty damn good for them. Not to say that Kevin Ryan and Cabana Man Dan didn’t bring their own combined fire to this match, as they make a capable team in their own right. We are seeing new and improved versions of both Kevin and Dan both in the ring and personality wise, and I was glad to see the best side of both come out in this match. We also saw sneaky I Am Sam come out to ringside halfway through the match as a distraction to CMD, who had a chance encounter with a very rude Sam backstage prior to this opening match. Dan was quick to teach Sam a lesson about interrupting grown folks’ business, but in turning his attention to Sam he momentarily left Kevin Ryan to face off against their opponents. For a moment there though, it looked as if Kevin could survive a two-on-one confrontation. We didn’t get a chance to find out, because Brayden Toon hit the ring to seemingly even the odds.

Shean and Sean had an ace in the hole, however, that ensured they’d get the best of Kevin and CMD. Brayden Toon has been looking to come up in the New South ranks, and it looks like he found his platform by joining forces with Shean Christopher and Sean Campbell. Much to everyone’s surprise, Toon laid Kevin Ryan out with a deadly lariat. Shean and his two new associates then proceeded to attack Kevin savagely in a post-match beatdown. Surely Kevin Ryan’s got vengeful plans in mind now to take out his former partner’s crew, whether systematically one by one or all at once remains to be seen!

Match 2: Adam Priest vs. Duncan Mitchell

Believe me, I love making my picks for the year’s top prospects. Right now I’ve got a list in mind of New South’s must-watch talent and Duncan Mitchell is the hottest prospect I see on it. Keep both eyes on this young man because I guarantee you there will be promotions looking just as hard at him very soon. Maybe that’s why Adam Priest was so aggressive here against Duncan Mitchell; keep in mind it wasn’t that long ago people were giving Priest this very same praise. Yes, Priest has surely come a long way but he’s not one to help others up with him; in fact if you’re in any way gifted in the ring he’ll put a target right on you. Such is the case here as Duncan Mitchell showed off just a taste of his skills and caught Priest momentarily off his guard.

Priest responded by punishing the top prospect in only the way he can, by using immense strength to throw around Mitchell from one side of the ring to the other and ultimately catching him in a submission for the win. Priest got a good looking victory, but Duncan Mitchell looked very impressive in his outing here against a much more seasoned talent.

Match 3: 2 Fly Ty vs. Dy-Lan

How can I tell you in words how much this match vexed my very being? I assure you I drove six ass-ramming hours in high hopes of seeing my guy Dy-Lan give 2 Fly Ty the ass-beating he had coming. This would be the match where Ty would get his! We’d been waiting to watch Dy-Lan finally have his comeuppance against his former tag team partner and co-champion since their breakup a while back where Ty injured Dy-Lan. So it stood to reason that this was where Ty’s fuckery ended. Or...that’s what we thought. Nope, we didn’t even have a match! I underestimated the amount of chicken that can be stuffed in a whole 2-Fly Ty, because he took the way out that even a coward would scoff at! Right as the match was to start, Ty used his chain wrapped around his hand to knock Dy-Lan out and rule the whole thing as a no contest. Needless to say, I was pissed off and made sure I let Ty know about it:

And the funny thing? Ty still thought all this time that he could run! No sir, Dy-Lan doesn’t let you get away that easy. February 6th at New South’s I Love Pro Wrestling event we’ll see this grudge match take place with no coward’s way out for Ty to take. Finally let’s see some justice!

Main Event: Nolan Edward vs. The Mongrel (HOSS Qualifying Match)

I should first say that I was there live for this show and prior to this match I indulged in ingesting several dried psilocybin mushrooms in addition to a large amount of THC. I just wanted a psychedelic experience in general, but I didn’t know it would hit during this match. In hindsight, however, I’m kind of glad things kicked in when they did. For one thing, Nolan Edward vs. The Mongrel is a match that makes your eyes pop just looking at it on paper. Plus, this match was a HOSS qualifier. That’s what made this one a huge deal for me; I consider Nolan Edward a surrogate son and for him to go on to this year’s HOSS Tournament would make me the proudest play-mama you’d ever seen. However, to get there he’d have to take on a literal monster who seemingly nobody in New South can beat.

So all that was going on and then the shrooms made their presence known, right about where I gave Nolan a fist bump on the way to the ring. The beginning action was hectic and went all around the outside of the ring, and I found myself getting confused as to whether the match actually started or not. When the Mongrel slammed Nolan hard into the bleachers on the other side of the building I felt my chair start to vibrate. Nolan came flying off the bleachers sending Mongrel over the ring steps and from where I sat it looked like rotoscoped animation (pretty damn cool actually).

Then when they hit the ring again the lights went out. By then I was fully under the influence and I screamed loud, closing my eyes for a second. When I opened them I saw a huge silhouette of a human pitbull outside the ring. Holy shit, did I just manifest Brett Ison? No, no, he’s really here, and - oh, he just hit Nolan...and OH HELL, Ison’s beating the hell out of The Mongrel! Wait, this doesn’t make sense! Well, no, actually it does. It’s HOSS season and anything goes. That includes Ison inserting himself into the qualifying matches on his own volition and allowing his Kill Or Be Killed brethren to move on into this year’s HOSS Tournament. That’s right, Ison’s in and Nolan qualifies! What does this mean for HOSS? For one thing, I know it looks like KOBK is taking over...is that why Dump Sanders has stepped forth and vowed now that he’ll be taking full control in his renewed position of New South General Manager?

Post-Show Thoughts

Oh the drama that’s ahead of us! We’re not even fully through January yet and we’ve got former partners feuding while current partners are bonding. Don’t expect things to slow down in February either because we’ve got New South’s annual I Love Pro Wrestling event coming up in a couple of weeks in addition to more Action Clash tapings and HOSS qualifying matches. There’s peak storytelling going on in New South right now and in my opinion you’d be hard-pressed to find any other promotion at the moment that’s got the same kind of quality of talent and production. Keep your eyes on IWTV each Tuesday night to see what’s next!
