Indie Wrestling Wire: Freelance Underground "Back to Church Street Part Brew" recap

One of my favorite things about indie wrestling in 2021 is, honestly, each show I watch, I go into without any expectations. I'm just damn glad that I'm able to watch a live pro wrestling show again.

I decided to watch Freelance Undergrounds "Back to Church Street Part Brew," stream on IWTV. For once in my life, I'd made the right choice!

From the solid opening match of Storm Grayson versus JJ Garrett to the hard hitting FU Heavyweight title match that saw GPA retain his belt against big man Calvin Tankman, there was a little something for everyone on last nights show.

It was also a night of surprises, too.

Kylie Rae returned to Freelance Underground and boy did that get the crowd on their feet. Rae took on Freelance student Angel Escalera in a really sold 12 minute match that saw Rae sprinkle in some heelish moves and behavior against Escalera, who looked to shock the wrestling world with a victory over Kylie.

Alas, it wasn't to be, as Rae's experience was just too much for Escalera. At one point, Rae threatened to leave the ring, not happy with the reffing of the match - going as far as putting her backpack back on ... only to use it as a weapon!

I'm all for heel Kylie. Sign me up.

And then Laynie Luck & Billie Starkz decided to steal the show, the night, the week (in my opinion) with an amazing match. This was my favorite thing of the week from the start - Billie was a bit more sassy in the ring, playing some mind games with Laynie.

But once the opening minutes had passed, the women decided to beat the living hell out of each other with a back an forth battle that showed, to me, a new found confidence in herself, for Starkz.

She just moved around the ring with a controlled abandonment of fear, continually finding ways to strike Luck, whether it was a traditional strike or some on the spot improvisational move dictated by Luck's aggressiveness.

Just a superb match. Also, stop telling me Starkz is a young woman learning as she goes. She's arrived. Summer of 21 is going to be amazing to watch.

Check out the show on IWTV - they've already uploaded it for you dorks who went out instead of staying in for the rassles!
